A Little Detour

We were on our way to a party on Saturday and instead of turning on the road we had to we kept going to the 75% Off Bookstore. We don’t get out there too often but as we were in the same area we couldn’t resist.

I’m so glad we did because I found a bunch of Inspector Banks books for $2.49 each or less. They also had several tables of clearance books, 99 cents each, so the $5 regular priced books suddenly seemed expensive. Ha, ha.

Here’s some of the other loot:
The Underground Man by Mick Jackson
Lovesong by Nikki Gemmell
The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville

I don’t know anything about these books aside from the blurb on the back but sometimes that’s the best part isn’t it? Oh and we did make it to the party and I left my books in the car.

I Like Jo

As I read more into Little Women I find myself smiling at some of the situation the girls get into but I couldn’t quite remember all that made Jo my favorite of the March girls, until last night that is.

I read the chapter where the girls and Laurie are playing castles in the air. They voice aloud their desires of what will make them happy when they grow up. Meg is pouting because Jo has just told her she would more than likely be happy with a good husband and angelic children so she tells Jo “You’d have nothing but horses, inkstands, and novels in yours.”

Here’s Jo’s response to that: “Wouldn’t I, though? I’d have a stable full of Arabian steeds, rooms piled with books, and I’d write out of a magic inkstand, so that my works should be as famous as Laurie’s music. I want to do something splendid before I go into my castle – something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it, and mean to astonish you all some day. I think I shall write books, and get rich and famous: that would suit me, so that is my favorite dream.”

Now, I remember why Jo was my favorite.

Blank Books

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you probably know that I also love journals. Just like I look forward to starting a new novel, I can say the same for my journals. I am getting down to the last pages in one and I’m thinking of what my next book will look like.

I love Moleskines. Who doesn’t, but I also like journals with handmade papers and/or funky covers. By the way, if you love Moleskines you must visit Moleskinerie. My only requirement for a journal is that the pages be blank, no ruled-pages for me. This way I can doodle, paste pictures, etc.

I could make my own journals, we do have enough decorative and art paper in our house to start an art school, but I like to buy them too. I use them for my thoughts, book quotes, anything and everything, and I usually have several journals going on at once.

So as I’ve been looking around for a new one I’ve found some fun ones. Take a look at these and these. Aren’t they pretty?
