Quick Post

I’m finally getting around to doing a meme I was tagged on by Gentle Reader and Adrienne. This is a quick one and perfect as I’ve started a new book. I know, I should finish the books I already have in progress but I got an Advance Review Copy fo Ann Brashares latest novel, The Last Summer (of You & Me) and I couldn’t resist.

This is an easy meme: “You simply have to grab the book nearest to you (no cheating here), turn to page 161, and post the text of the fifth full sentence on the page along with the body of the instruction on your blog. Then you tag 3 people.”

“He’d planned to leave for New York on Monday afternoon.”

I’ve seen this meme make the rounds so I’m not sure who hasn’t been tagged already. If you haven’t done it then now’s your chance and consider yourself tagged.

It’s time to start enjoying the weekend!

May Statistics

I feel like May was a slow month for me. I did read five books but I think the feeling comes because some of my current books are taking me a while to finish (see my previous post). But, here is what I read this month:

Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky (my review)
Jane and Prudence by Barbara Pym (my review)
Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers (my review)
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (my review)
Innocent Graves by Peter Robinson (my review)

In case you are wondering, my favorites were Suite Francaise and Jane and Prudence. You know what the biggest surprise for this month was? The fact that all books came from my stacks!

I did borrow a couple of library books but I haven’t gotten to them and I probably need to return them now. I better check the due dates, although a trip to the library this weekend is a better idea don’t you think?

I had grand plans to participate in the current Slaves discussion but I didn’t have time to even open the book. I also am going to miss out on my foreign authors book group on Tuesday as I didn’t get to that book. Oh well, there’s always the next month right?

My Current Reads

I had been trying to keep the number of books I had going at just two but that little phase didn’t last too long. Currently I have some great reads going on.

I’m still holding steady at page 43 of Don Quixote. Sad, I know. I haven’t picked this one up in more than a week but I’m really going make an effort to read some more of it this weekend.

The Hummingbird’s Daughter is all kinds of wonderful but I didn’t want to take it on my trip either as it’s kind of a chunkster so I am still at about the half way point in this book.

Monday I have my Murder on Mondays book group so I had to start The Murder of Roger Ackroyd a Hercule Poirot mystery by Agatha Christie. Actually if anyone has a good web site on Agatha Christie let me know. Our group will be having a trivia contest and there will be prizes – free books! I need to get up to speed on some Agatha facts.

The book I did take with me to Monterrey is my third choice for the Once Upon a Time Challenge, To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. I was excited to start this book as I’ve always heard great things about it but I will admit that it took me a while to get into it. It could have been though that I kept getting distracted. Anyway once I finally caught on I started enjoying it and I’m past the half way point.

Know what else is interesting? In the Hummingbird’s Daughter one character is reading Don Quixote and in To Say Nothing of the Dog one of the characters mentions following clues like Hercule Poirot. I love those kind of connections.
