I feel like May was a slow month for me. I did read five books but I think the feeling comes because some of my current books are taking me a while to finish (see my previous post). But, here is what I read this month:
Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky (my review)
Jane and Prudence by Barbara Pym (my review)
Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers (my review)
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (my review)
Innocent Graves by Peter Robinson (my review)
In case you are wondering, my favorites were Suite Francaise and Jane and Prudence. You know what the biggest surprise for this month was? The fact that all books came from my stacks!
I did borrow a couple of library books but I haven’t gotten to them and I probably need to return them now. I better check the due dates, although a trip to the library this weekend is a better idea don’t you think?
I had grand plans to participate in the current Slaves discussion but I didn’t have time to even open the book. I also am going to miss out on my foreign authors book group on Tuesday as I didn’t get to that book. Oh well, there’s always the next month right?
Yes, there’s always next month. At least that’s what I always tell myself since I’m perpetually behind in the reading I’d like to do. 😛
I really need to get around to reading Suite Francaise. sigh..someday.
Going to quote Literate Kitten who said, “The thing about books is, they are always there for you.”
You have a whole lifetime to read. Just have fun, yes? 🙂
Hey, you read 5 more than me! OK, perhaps that isn’t saying much (certainly does about me!). haha.
No, really — you have also had a lot going on too and you have picked some challenging books too. I think June will be a good month for you.
I need to read your reviews — always interesting and insightful!
Well, you did go on vacation and you did have to plan for the trip, so you lost a few reading days there.
Aren’t some of those books kinda chunky, anyway?
Plus, reading Sayers (who wrote many years ago) takes some adjusting to.
It looks like a great list – I never do get ‘enough’ reading done, though my family somehow seems to think I do. I also have some library books out that look great, but may also have to be returned before they’re read. I guess they’ll still be there if I ever get the chance.
I also, read fewer than normal, but had some chunky ones in May. One of these days I will get around to reading Suite Francaise. Isn’t it hard to keep from competing with yourself and how many books you read in previous months? 🙂
Tanabata – I think I need to be at peace with the always behind on the reading issue 🙂
Dark Orpheus – Oh good quote from LK. At least there is always a new book waiting right!
Christine – Oh chica you are funny. I hope June will bring lots of good reads too!
Isabel – Yes, that’s true some of the books are chunky so I need to remember that. You are right, Sayers took some time to get used to.
Tara – Good point about those library books. I think I will go there this weekend though and visit with some of them 🙂
NyssaNeala – Ah, I think you’ve hit it on the nail, it also has to do with competing with yourself. If I read so many the month before all of a sudden you wonder what happened? Funny.
That’s what I tell myself – I’ll do better next month. You did read some good ones. 🙂
Hi Iliana – Thanks for checking in with me. I have been away and busy and have not really read much (sad eh ?), updated my site , or visited other blogs. Hopefully things should change in the near future. Compared to me , you’ve done incredibly well this month 🙂
Gavin – Oh don’t you hate it when life interfers with reading?! Hope things become less hectic and you can get back to all those mystery books you had mentioned! 🙂
I enjoyed your Suite Francaise review – indeed, I also thought about for some time after.
Kate – Thank you. I love it when books stay in the mind for a while. Even if it was a book I didn’t love yet I thought about a lot then to me it seems that the author obviously did something right.
I hate when I have too many books and not enough time. I also hate getting library books and returning them un-read. I will be doing that this week. I just finished Abundance, which is long, and am now reading Four Spirits. Also, long.
But, all I want to read right now is fun, light books.
