I had been trying to keep the number of books I had going at just two but that little phase didn’t last too long. Currently I have some great reads going on.
I’m still holding steady at page 43 of Don Quixote. Sad, I know. I haven’t picked this one up in more than a week but I’m really going make an effort to read some more of it this weekend.
The Hummingbird’s Daughter is all kinds of wonderful but I didn’t want to take it on my trip either as it’s kind of a chunkster so I am still at about the half way point in this book.
Monday I have my Murder on Mondays book group so I had to start The Murder of Roger Ackroyd a Hercule Poirot mystery by Agatha Christie. Actually if anyone has a good web site on Agatha Christie let me know. Our group will be having a trivia contest and there will be prizes – free books! I need to get up to speed on some Agatha facts.
The book I did take with me to Monterrey is my third choice for the Once Upon a Time Challenge, To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. I was excited to start this book as I’ve always heard great things about it but I will admit that it took me a while to get into it. It could have been though that I kept getting distracted. Anyway once I finally caught on I started enjoying it and I’m past the half way point.
Know what else is interesting? In the Hummingbird’s Daughter one character is reading Don Quixote and in To Say Nothing of the Dog one of the characters mentions following clues like Hercule Poirot. I love those kind of connections.
Interesting cross-referencing coincidences in your books. Those kind of things are fun.
I love this kind of bookish connections too. It’s like the world is talking to each other about books.
Have fun reading.
Cool on the connections.
I’m moving pretty slowly on DQ, too, though I have been reading a chapter a day. I take it with me on the bus. To be honest sometimes I want to grab another book, but if I get out of the habit, I’m afraid it will languish. I love it when books connect up with other books–especially the ones you happen to be reading!
Booklogged – It’s fun when that happens isn’t it.
Dark Orpheus – Oh I like that 🙂
Isabel – I thought about you when I noticed these. You always seem to have some cool connections going!
Danielle – I know what you mean about wanting to grab another book. It’s not that I’m not enjoying the books that are taking too long it’s just that I like starting new books. Maybe I should bring DQ to my office and read during lunch. Hmmm, something to think about.
Glad you’re liking To Say Nothing… it’s one of my favorites. 🙂
Sounds like you are holding steady on your current reads or at least catching up! I am behind as usual….something has got to change!
I’m about where you are on DQ…and also on the vow to read more this weekend!
Hummingbird’s Daughter also read like the poetic prose of One Hundred Years of Solitude. 🙂
It is a chunkster but I’m sure you’ll be glad you read it.
Melissa – I’m so glad I finally got into it. It’s really a fun read. I feel bad almost that I didn’t really pay attention at first because now I’m wondering what I might have missed.
Christine – We need more time! Well, there will probably never be enough time for reading but can’t help but wish for it.
LK – Good plans for the weekend 🙂
Matt – I read One Hundred Years years ago and fess up that I didn’t like it! I know, me the huge GGM fan and I didn’t like that book? I think it’s one of those book that deserves a re-read.
