Novellas in November

I told you I had a lot of reading plans for November. I’m not sure when exactly I’m going to find the time for all these challenges but who doesn’t get excited about reading plans? So another exciting reading event happening this month is Novellas in November hosted by Cathy and Rebecca.

Novellas are somewhere between 100 – 200 pages. For this challenge any genre is valid and you can combine it with other reading events. Cathy recently posted a compilation of novellas by genre, authors who write novellas, nonfiction, etc. It’s fantastic.

It was hard for me to find some novellas on my shelves but I did gather four titles which would fit nicely for this challenge and best of all one would also fit for German Literature reading month and the other would be for my Classics reading challenge. I’m all about stacking them together!

Henrietta’s War by Joyce Dennys (158 pages)
Article 353 by Tanguy Viel; translated by William Rodarmor (160 pages)
Rock Crystal by Adalbert Stifter; translated by Elizabeth Mayer and Marianne Moore (96 pages)
Lady Susan by Jane Austen (80 pages)

I believe there are other reading events going on but this is it. I’m done. I’m actually already thinking about reading challenges in the next year and I think I’m going to be making a change about how I approach some of those.

Anyway, now to select some books for all of these reading events I’m joining and to get settled in for a bit of a longer weekend. I’m taking a day off on Friday!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and more bookish talk soon.

Margaret Atwood Reading Month

It’s time to welcome November and with another reading event, Margaret Atwood Reading Month hosted by Buriedinprint.

I love that you can really join in a variety of ways, whether you want to blog, read various books or do a readalong, etc.

I wanted to join in because for the longest time I’ve always said that The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorite books. I read that in 1998 and went on to re-read it again many years later. One of the few books I’ve re-read. I also read the graphic novel version.

But that’s not the only Margaret Atwood book I’ve read. Others are: The Robber Bride, Cat’s Eye, Life Before Man, Alias Grace, and The Penelopiad.

When you look at her list of published books, it is impressive and there is so much to choose from. I have quite a few unread Atwood books on my shelves and I think the most recent book I’ve read was The Penelopiad a couple of years ago or maybe it was the graphic novel version of The Handmaid’s Tale. Either way, it’s been too long since I read her so count me in for this one.

Which book am I going to pick up? Well, that’s still a surprise to me. I’m finishing up a book tonight and want to finish that before I start a new one but I will get back to you on that. Are you joining in on #MARM2021? What’s your favorite Atwood?

Happy Halloween

Do you have treats ready for trick or treaters? We won’t be giving out any treats this year given the combination of still being in a pandemic and just being so tired from work and getting ready for another work week, but we do have some for ourselves.

Well October just flew by didn’t it? I had a great reading month as I completed six books and I also wrapped up the R.I.P. reading challenge by having completed four books!

Here’s what I read in October: Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Dear Child by Romy Hausmann, The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson (R.I.P read), This House is Haunted by John Boyne (R.I.P. read) and The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson.

The two other books that I read for R.I.P. I finished in September and those were The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James and The Crying Child by Barbara Michaels. These were all excellent selections for the challenge.

I was hoping to get in another spooky read this month but well who says you can only read ghost stories in October right? And, I was also hoping to finish another book this weekend but I’ve been so busy with work that it didn’t leave a lot of time left for reading time.

Moving in to November there are so many exciting reading events like German Literature Month and Nonfiction November but there are a couple of others I’m also hoping to participate in so stay tuned for more on those.

I hope you had a great reading month and let’s welcome a new month with some great reads ok?
