Do you have treats ready for trick or treaters? We won’t be giving out any treats this year given the combination of still being in a pandemic and just being so tired from work and getting ready for another work week, but we do have some for ourselves.
Well October just flew by didn’t it? I had a great reading month as I completed six books and I also wrapped up the R.I.P. reading challenge by having completed four books!
Here’s what I read in October: Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Dear Child by Romy Hausmann, The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson (R.I.P read), This House is Haunted by John Boyne (R.I.P. read) and The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson.
The two other books that I read for R.I.P. I finished in September and those were The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James and The Crying Child by Barbara Michaels. These were all excellent selections for the challenge.
I was hoping to get in another spooky read this month but well who says you can only read ghost stories in October right? And, I was also hoping to finish another book this weekend but I’ve been so busy with work that it didn’t leave a lot of time left for reading time.
Moving in to November there are so many exciting reading events like German Literature Month and Nonfiction November but there are a couple of others I’m also hoping to participate in so stay tuned for more on those.
I hope you had a great reading month and let’s welcome a new month with some great reads ok?
No trick-or-treaters here, either. Our neighborhood is pretty much retirees, and a bit removed from the nearby towns, so there aren’t any little kids. I kind of miss it, but I don’t mind having all the candy lying around tempting me! π
You had a good month of reading. I’m going to have to give Simone St. James a try. Her books seem to get pretty high ratings.
Hope you had a good weekend. We had a couple of days of beautiful weather, but the rain returns tomorrow.
Like Les, our neighborhood is mostly retirees and it has been about three years since we’ve had any kids show up. I think November is definitely a month for continued spooky books. Very atmospheric. I had a good reading month in October, and I’ve just started a nonfiction book for November, but there will always be mysteries and thrillers in the mix.
I will be replying to your letter, too. I’m trying to catch up on correspondence! π
Sounds like you read a lot of really good books in October! We put out some treats for the kids in our neighborhood on Saturday, but we never get very many. I think we had two small groups, and a few singletons come by…maybe ten in all? And that was our Halloween. π
My neighborhood is mostly an older crowd, too, so no trick or treaters. Every now and then someone will have grandchildren or other young visitors, but they always give a warning so we’re prepared! We ended up taking a pizza over to my FIL’s, so it was a quiet evening for us.
You had a good reading month in October. It always seems like there is so much going on in November though. Between Nonfiction November, Novellas in November, and German Lit Month (which I forgot about), what’s a reader to do??
We did have trick-or-treaters galore! It had been several years since I had even bought any candy as our old neighborhood rarely had kids coming by. I asked our next-door neighbor and she said there would likely be lots. None last year, she said, but thought they would likely make up for it this year. And that was the case. We live in a neighborhood now with all ages, but I also know that with a small town, kids come from lots of areas for treats. It was fun and we turned out the lights about 7:45 because I was running out of candy. Had some larger groups and I didn’t want to say ‘you can have one, but now I’m out’ – ha! I was surprised at how grim some of the costumes were. A little boy who was Pennywise the Clown from ‘It’. He was scary! LOL
“LetΓ’β¬β’s welcome a new month with some great reads” — Amen to that! Here’s hoping Halloween brought an end to my reading slump and look forward to reading new reviews!
We drew in a good number of people via our Halloween-decorated Little Free Library. But we just don’t have many kids who live in our neighborhood.
