Weekend Reading Report

Can you believe I didn’t go to the bookstore this weekend? It’s rare I don’t get my bookstore fix so I think I’ll have to go sometime during the week so I won’t feel off or something.

I did start a new book though even though I told myself I couldn’t start a new one but I got a notice from my library that the due date is coming up and I can’t renew it so I started The Last Child by John Hart. So far I know that a young girl disappeared and although it’s been more than a year her twin brother still believes she’s alive and is doing what he can to bring her home.

I also spent way too much time following a forum thread on Etsy because someone said they didn’t like to read, didn’t see the point in it and had never read a book. Yes, you can understand why I’d follow that trying to comprehend how this could be!

Do you know people who don’t like to read? Are you close with them? I do know people who don’t like to read but I have to say most of my close friends are readers. I don’t expect people to read lots but I do think it’s sad if people never pick up a book.

Anyway that’s a bit of news from my world. What’s going on with you?

TGIF & An Award

Ah, Friday. No bookstore date night tonight as we were both kind of tired and didn’t want to drive but I’m sure I’ll find myself visiting the bookstore sometime over the weekend. Tonight we are just going to hang out and I would love to stay up late reading.

Naida was sweet enough to pass on The Versatile Blogger award to me and that means I have to tell you seven things about me. You guys know all about me now right? Ok, here it goes:

1. When I was in high school I used to say I wanted to be an interpreter. Given that every job I’ve had I’ve been able to use my Spanish I guess in a small way I got part of my wish.
2. A current favorite music group is Camera Obscura. I love to listen to this when I’m crafting.
3. A new favorite yogurt I’ve recently discovered is Wallaby’s Down Under in dark chocolate. So delicious.
4. I have a bad habit of starting a lot of projects and not finishing them. I’ve been better about this in recent years but it is something that I still struggle with and try to change.
5. I’m not really a diamonds kind of girl. Of course they are beautiful but I prefer funky necklaces so I can switch them up all the time. I have quite a collection of heart necklaces. Hearts of silver, glass, plastic, you name it.
6. When I was a teen my favorite books were the Sweet Valley High books and the Sweet Dreams books. I’m surprised I don’t read romances now. Ha,ha.
7. I’ve never had a pet. I like cats but am very allergic to them. I’d love a dog (Lab or German Shepherd) but just wish they’d stay puppy size. Aren’t they cute when they are pups?

Now, the rule is to pass it on to 15 friends. I have been very lazy about passing awards but not this time. So here it goes to some of my bloggy friends: Melody, Sandy, Wisteria, Nymeth, Danielle, Stefanie, Jenclair, Andi, Eva, Kathleen, Anna, Serena, Isabel, Lesley, and Natalie. Ok, I’m ready for the next award so I can pass it to more friends.

But, I will pass on a hug to all of you and hope you have a fun weekend. More book talk soon.

Oops!

I have a confession to make. Remember I mentioned I was waiting for a box from Amazon? Well what I haven’t told you is that originally I went on Amazon for a gift for my mom but it was late on Sunday when I was doing my shopping. My husband was telling me about the book he wanted, I was browsing and trying to remember some books I wanted and by the end of the evening I had bought the items in my cart but no present for my mom!

It wasn’t until the next day that I got my email confirmation and I realized her gift wasn’t a part of the order. My husband thinks this was just my little conspiracy so that I would have to go back and make another purchase and of course maybe throw in something else for myself. Well, he may be on to something there. haha…

I’m not worried about my mom’s present. I know what I want to get her and actually now that I had a couple of days to think I’ve come up with a better idea so overall a good thing.

What did I get? I read a review of The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katharine Green on NPR a couple of weeks ago and am so curious to read this book. Even though I’m a big fan of mysteries I hadn’t heard of Anna Katherine Green and she’s considered to be the mother of the detective novel. Did you know that?

The other reason why this blog post is titled “Oops” is because I have forgotten to direct you over to Estella’s Revenge E-Zine. Andi, Heather and Melissa have brought back the wonderful zine filled with reviews, author interviews and other bookish columns. I know I’ve missed reading this and I’m excited it’s back. If you haven’t checked it out, go visit.
