Change of Plans

I had plans to get a lot of stuff done over the weekend but my plans had to be put on hold when Friday mid-morning I started feeling kind of sick. Sore throat that wouldn’t go away… Oh no, this wasn’t just allergies but a cold. Darn. I haven’t had a cold in two years I think.

So my weekend has been spent in bed watching movies. I haven’t read as much as I could have given that I was so congested that my head hurt. Hopefully I’ll be feeling better soon so we can resume regular book talk around here.

Now I’m off to find a comfort read (probably a mystery) and then to bed. Hope you all have a great start to the week!

And, I’m Back

Hello everyone. I am back from vacation and sitting here thinking that it went by too quickly but I had a very nice time so that’s what counts. It was so relaxing that I ended up not blogging and hardly spent any time at the computer. I read seven books. I guess all that computer time really does eat into my reading time. Ha.

The last couple of days we were in Germany we went to Hannover to visit with a friend and we also went to a monastery to see a calligraphy exhibit. Here are a few images:

I love being in Hannover on a Saturday. There are so many people in the city center going in and out of shops, chilling out at cafes and it’s just great for people watching.

I don’t like beer but I think this looks crazy-fun. If I had seen the wine bike then maybe I would have had to hop on. Hee,hee.

We had a lovely day for an outing in the Harz and to see Kloster Drübeck. The monastery is celebrating 1050 years. Can you believe that? It’s beautiful.

We also got to see some very nice calligraphy on display.

Of course after all the wandering around and going up and down stairs some time out in the cafe area is a must. I had some delicious cake (a bit like cheesecake) and the requisite cappuccino.

We had a lot of fun. As we walked out I saw a bunch of bright sunflowers and honestly how can you not burst into smiles when you see these.

So that’s a bit about our trip. I will try to get my act together and give you some quickie reviews on the books I read. In the meantime, what have you been up to? Read some good books? I can’t wait to catch up!

Greetings from Germany

Hello Blog Friends! I’ve been enjoying some very relaxing days in Germany. The weather is definitely cooler than in Texas so for the most part I’ve been settling on the couch, with a blanket, a book and lots of chocolate. Oh my goodness, I have eaten so much chocolate.

I’ve finished four books: Aftermath by Peter Robinson, Singing Bird by Roisin McAuley, Killing Me Softly by Nicci French and A Suitable Vengeance by Elizabeth George. Now, I’ve just gotten into Summer by Edith Wharton. I have no excuses for not writing up reviews other than I’m just too relaxed and enjoying being a bit lazy. So don’t know if I’ll get around to telling you more about the books but I can say that my favorties have been the Robinson and George books.

What else have I been up to? We went to the movies yesterday and saw Toy Story 3. Very cute and luckily I could follow along even though my German needs a lot of help. We visited a couple of bookstores and believe it or not I haven’t bought anything – yet. We are going to Hannover in a few days and there are two bookstores I really like there so I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist temptation.

Actually, I meant to mention that when we were in New York we had a grand time walking around with Christine and her husband. And, bad influence that she is, she took us to the Strand. My bags were pretty full with my books already but I managed to buy one book to squeeze in, Rule Britannia by Daphne du Maurier. How could I leave that behind right?

Anyway, it’s drizzling now, not too cold though, but perfect weather to settle down with my book. I don’t have a coffee maker here so that’s a bummer as I could use a cup but I do have some cake waiting for me. Of course I went to the bakery today. I hope you are all doing great and reading lots of good stuff.

Oh here’s a pic of my typical breakfast. Fresh Brötchen with honey this time. Tomorrow maybe with Nutella or jam.
