Good Intentions

Remember I said I had no plans for the weekend? Well, I was one busy girl but it was a great weekend. We went to the bookstore, I went to the gym, got the grocery shopping done and we even went to two parties. Hmm, I think I could use another day off. Haha.

Anyway I’ve got to tell you about our bookstore outing because Friday I got an email from Borders Books with a 40% Off coupon on any two paperbacks. What a thrill. We went to Borders on Friday and I caught up on a couple of magazines, had a yummy coffee drink and browsed the shelves.

bbw.jpgI got The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, one because I love her writing and two because I think it’d be a perfect choice for the R.I.P. Challenge. And, I also got Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury in honor of Banned Book Week. Last year I read The Chocolate War during Banned Book Week and I wanted to make sure to celebrate the freedom to read again so tonight I’m planning to start Fahrenheit. Am I the last person to read this classic?

Oh but the funny thing was that when I was looking for this book I couldn’t find it. I thought, oh my goodness, they’ve taken it off the shelves! I had images of a conspiracy being afoot but finally I found it in the Science Fiction section. Is it me or shouldn’t this also be in the fiction section given that it is a classic?

So how about you? Planning to read any banned books?

No Plans

Well, I do have some idea of things I want to do over the weekend but I’m not going to rush around or try to get everything done. The one thing that gets highest priorty from me for the list is date night at the bookstore. My husband and I were both sick last weekend and this week we’ve been dragging a bit as we have been trying to get well so now we want to go and enjoy a nice evening out at the bookstore.

I believe there’s a new Somerset Studios magazine out as well as a new issue of Cloth Paper Scissors I must check out. Oh I’m sure there are tons of magazines I’ve missed out since I was away on vacation. It’ll be fun to see what new magazines and books are on the shelves.

I also would really love to get caught up on blog reading. I’ve missed you guys and am slowly making my way to your blogs. Don’t even get me started on how behind I am on emails. Ah well, things will get done right?

But, I’m very happy to report that I was able to go to yoga class tonight and even though I’m still having a bit of congestion for the most part I was able to enjoy my practice, and what a wonderful class it was. We did a sequence of moon salutations in honor of the full moon tonight and our teacher played the guitar and sang for us at the end during relaxation pose. So sweet.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Hope you are up to a lot of fun stuff and more bookish talk soon.

Playing Catch Up

Thank you guys for all the get well vibes. My cold is almost gone and I’m feeling better aside from being a bit tired, of course it doesn’t help that work has been very busy. I think what I miss most are my yoga classes which I haven’t been too as I’ve been so congested but I’m hoping I can start back up tomorrow.

Anyway, I did go to book club last night and we had lots to discuss over a book which for the most part got thumbs down (from me too). Isn’t it funny how sometimes the books you like least are the ones that you end up talking about the most? At least that always seems to be the case in my experience.

What book did we talk about? All Our Yesterdays by Robert B. Parker. The story was a multigenerational saga of love, betrayal and violence. I didn’t like a single character and thought there were too many cliches but again, go figure that we almost ran out of time to discuss this one.

We did make some other selections for the upcoming months and we’ll be reading: Fieldwork by Mischa Berlinski, The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall (I’m currently reading this one actually), and Nobody Move by Denis Johnson. Have you read any of these?

So, slowly getting back in to the swing of things here at Casa Bookgirl.
