Hello Blog Friends! I’ve been enjoying some very relaxing days in Germany. The weather is definitely cooler than in Texas so for the most part I’ve been settling on the couch, with a blanket, a book and lots of chocolate. Oh my goodness, I have eaten so much chocolate.
I’ve finished four books: Aftermath by Peter Robinson, Singing Bird by Roisin McAuley, Killing Me Softly by Nicci French and A Suitable Vengeance by Elizabeth George. Now, I’ve just gotten into Summer by Edith Wharton. I have no excuses for not writing up reviews other than I’m just too relaxed and enjoying being a bit lazy. So don’t know if I’ll get around to telling you more about the books but I can say that my favorties have been the Robinson and George books.
What else have I been up to? We went to the movies yesterday and saw Toy Story 3. Very cute and luckily I could follow along even though my German needs a lot of help. We visited a couple of bookstores and believe it or not I haven’t bought anything – yet. We are going to Hannover in a few days and there are two bookstores I really like there so I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist temptation.
Actually, I meant to mention that when we were in New York we had a grand time walking around with Christine and her husband. And, bad influence that she is, she took us to the Strand. My bags were pretty full with my books already but I managed to buy one book to squeeze in, Rule Britannia by Daphne du Maurier. How could I leave that behind right?
Anyway, it’s drizzling now, not too cold though, but perfect weather to settle down with my book. I don’t have a coffee maker here so that’s a bummer as I could use a cup but I do have some cake waiting for me. Of course I went to the bakery today. I hope you are all doing great and reading lots of good stuff.
Oh here’s a pic of my typical breakfast. Fresh Brรยถtchen with honey this time. Tomorrow maybe with Nutella or jam.
“Of course I went to the bakery today.”
Now that alone makes it sound like the perfect holiday. The of-course-ness of daily bakery delights. The best accompaniment for bookishness. Enjoy!
Sounds like you’re having a great time. Isn’t German chocolate the best? Enjoy your relaxing time and hope you’ll share more photos!
Sounds heavenly — in fact, the cool weather alone sounds wonderful, but add bakery and books, and it must truly be wonderful!
Sounds like a wonderful trip so far. I hope the rest of your journey is as wonderful as the start.
It has been years since I visited Germany, but your post is making me nostalgic. Glad to hear you are having a good time.
Okay, I am a bit jealous of your travels…LOL
My brother spent 3 weeks in Germany. He brought back so much German chocolate. German chocolate is sooo much better than American chocolate.
Sounds like a good vacations so far! Enjoy!
Good books and good food. What else would anyone ever really need?
Awesome! I just want to go for holidays too!
Toy Story 3 – awesome! Did you get a bit weepy like I did, or are you strong? I got a Eurostar catalogue yesterday and was looking longingly at city breaks in mainland Europe – sigh have a great time and keep going to the bakery of course.
So glad you’re having a good time. Continue to relax and enjoy yourself and don’t even worry about writing and posting reviews. You’re supposed to be on vacation!
I’m sure you look at cool weather like I do – heaven! And a blanky, a book and chocolate sounds like heaven too. I’m curious about your Elizabeth George read. I do love her mysteries!
