Look What I’ve Got

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I cannot believe I totally forgot that Dewey’s Read-a-thon was this weekend. I’ve seen some of you post about what a fun time you had. Next time I must mark it in red on the calendar.

I’m so behind on everything lately so I’ll just apologize in advance. I know I owe emails, blog visits, answering comments on my blog, etc. But I’ve been just a bit busy over here trying to get ready for the craft show I’m participating in and of course everything else that goes on with life.

We did have a very fun time this weekend celebrating my husband’s birthday. He received a gift card to BookPeople and super guy that he is, he even shared some of it with me! Isn’t that sweet? I got two books, The Black Minutes by Martín Solares and A Novel Bookstore by Laurence Cossé. I hadn’t heard anything about these books before but they definitely looked intriguing and I’m excited to add these to my library.

The other goodie I have to rave about is this. Look what we made over the weekend:

Buttons! We got a buttonmaker so yes, more crafty goodness is in store for me. We used some of my husband’s calligraphy for these buttons. I can’t wait to come up with some fun stuff.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing great. I will go ahead and say that the next few weeks my postings might be a bit more unpredictable but I will try to keep up as much as I can.

This & That

Alright first order of business, a big congrats to one of my readers, Rosemary, who won the extra copy of The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall (winner selected via Random.org). Thank you guys for entering the giveaway! I’ll try to offer up more goodies later this season.

What’s the latest at Casa Bookgirl? We’ve got a bit of celebrating to do this weekend as my husband’s birthday was today. Not sure where all we’ll go but I have a feeling a visit to the bookstore is in order as he’s just as much of a bookworm as I am.

Actually I would really love to find a book by Mario Vargas Llosa. Do you have a favorite of his you can recommend?

I haven’t forgotten that in my last post I mentioned wanting to start a new book. I did and I think I’m in for a book that will really make me put on my thinking cap. I started Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer and although I’m not very far into the book there is one paragraph that basically stated his book wasn’t necessarily a case for being, or becoming, a vegetarian but more about mindful eating. Why do we eat the way we do? What or who has shaped our decisions about what we eat?

As I’m doing my yoga 40 Day Challenge this resonates with me because after all I’m continuing my path to becoming more mindful. Really pay attention when I’m talking to my loved ones, not just looking forward to what is coming but being present to what is happening now, etc. I do so love it when things seem to be in sync like this.

So that’s the scoop for now. I hope you all have a super weekend and more bookish talk soon.

Still Reading

I don’t consider myself a fast reader but there are certainly times when I feel like I’m moving right along the bookstacks and making dents here and there but lately it seems like my reading has just slowed down to a crawl. I’m still reading the same books I was last week. Are the bookmarks in the same place? It almost seems that way.

Don’t get me wrong, they are great books and I’m planning to finish them but now that I’ve had them going on for a bit you know what starts to happen? I want to start a new one. I’m trying to resist but I have all these great books checked out from the library, my stacks of unread books (or should I say bookcases of unread books) are looking very tempting and not to mention the ARCs which I feel like I must get to soon are also vying for my attention.

What to do? I should start another one right? But from which stack?

Ok, it’s getting a bit late and I need to stop complaining. I’m going to grab a chocolate chip cookie (they always help with decision-making) and then I’ll probably find a new book to read. I’ll tell you which one I chose soon.
