Alright first order of business, a big congrats to one of my readers, Rosemary, who won the extra copy of The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall (winner selected via Random.org). Thank you guys for entering the giveaway! I’ll try to offer up more goodies later this season.
What’s the latest at Casa Bookgirl? We’ve got a bit of celebrating to do this weekend as my husband’s birthday was today. Not sure where all we’ll go but I have a feeling a visit to the bookstore is in order as he’s just as much of a bookworm as I am.
Actually I would really love to find a book by Mario Vargas Llosa. Do you have a favorite of his you can recommend?
I haven’t forgotten that in my last post I mentioned wanting to start a new book. I did and I think I’m in for a book that will really make me put on my thinking cap. I started Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer and although I’m not very far into the book there is one paragraph that basically stated his book wasn’t necessarily a case for being, or becoming, a vegetarian but more about mindful eating. Why do we eat the way we do? What or who has shaped our decisions about what we eat?
As I’m doing my yoga 40 Day Challenge this resonates with me because after all I’m continuing my path to becoming more mindful. Really pay attention when I’m talking to my loved ones, not just looking forward to what is coming but being present to what is happening now, etc. I do so love it when things seem to be in sync like this.
So that’s the scoop for now. I hope you all have a super weekend and more bookish talk soon.
I am a vegetarian (soon to return back to my vegan ways) and I adore eating this way. I like to make sure that I know where my food has come from, and how it got to my plate. When I read how meat is processed to get to my plate and then into my stomach…somehow, it didn’t seem that appealing to me anymore, you know? I feel ten times better since eating this way for the past three years and…I lost almost 30 pounds, too! 🙂 Much better this way, that’s for sure! Makes me more aware and appreciate things, too.
Congrats to Rosemary!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Eating Animals! I chose to be a vegetarian last year and I can say I’ve more or less get used to my eating habits. Though occasionally I’d look at some dishes longingly, I’ll then remind myself about the process and how much difference/impact it’d make to the environment and I’ll be back to where I am, lol.
Hope you’ve a great weekend, Iliana!
My body would probably love it if I became a vegetarian, but there are two problems. I love meat and I hate vegetables! I was born and raised on a farm and eating animals is a way of life. Now that being said, I am extremely careful in not eating anything processed and almost everything we put in our mouths is organic. That is the best I can do!
Happy birthday to your fella! (I was going to say Mr. Bookgirl but that sounds kinda weird). I’ve not read any Vargas Llosa but I am very happy that he won the Nobel nonetheless. Have a great weekend!
Happy birthday to your other half. It must be lovely to have another avid reader in the house. To go to the book clubs together must be awesome. I always trail around on my lonesome.
Happy Birthday a day late to your husband! Hope you guys have/or had a great time celebrating. The Safran Foer book sounds interesting–I’ve yet to read him but I’ve heard good things about him.
Thanks!
BTW, by bedside table looks remarkably like yours 😀
Have a great weekend, and Happy Birthday to your hubby 🙂
I could easily be a vegetarian, but my husband craves meat, so I include chicken and turkey for him.
Good for you on the 40 day challenge! I received the email from Yoga Yoga about it, but although I try to do my own practice every day, I do miss sometimes. It is a habit, though, to begin my day with an hour of yoga and most days, I manage it.
I hope your husband had a nice birthday, Iliana! I’ve heard great things about Foer’s book and hope you are enjoying it.
Jonathan Safran Foer always seem to strike a cord in me. He looks at things from a different angle, a creative way. I loved his two prior books. You made me want to approach “Eating Animals”. Thanks Iliana.
I saw this the other day, maybe it will help with your Mario Vargas Llosa question.
