Weekend Recap

The weekend has flown by and I feel like I didn’t accomplish much. Saturday I decided to sort of get my studio ready for some major bookbinding as this time of the year starts my “busy” season and I realized I was out of some of my favorite papers and a couple of other supplies.

birdsandflowersSo, today I ran to Paper Source to stock up on the birds print and I found another floral print I quite liked. They have such gorgeous papers there that I wish I could take a sheet of each.

Anyway, I guess this week I’ll be running to some of the craft stores as well to get a few other supplies that I still need.

What else, well our weekly outing to the bookstore was not as fun given that they had the A/C on full blast and the coffee machine was broken! So we didn’t stay too long although I did grab the latest edition of Art Journaling magazine – yay.

Last but not least I’ve been thinking about Carl’s R.I.P. Challenge. I know I’m kind of behind but I’ve participated in this every year I think so I can’t pass up on it. So tonight I’m planning to spend sometime looking through my bookshelves and putting together a list of spooky books. I’m still not sure which Peril I’ll participate in and given that I’m late to the game I’ll probably go for Peril 2 or Peril 3 but I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend!

What I Read

Because I may not get a chance to review all the books I read while on vacation (some details are already fuzzy) I thought at least I should list out the books. So here are the stories that held my attention:

  • The Chemistry of Death by Simon Beckett
  • The Salinger Contract by Adam Langer
  • Excellent Women by Barbara Pym
  • The Ninth Girl by Tami Hoag
  • The Boy In the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbol and Agnete Friis
  • Five Days by Douglas Kennedy
  • The Stranger You Know by Andrea Kane
  • Six Years by Harlan Coben
  • The Longings of Wayward Girls by Karen Brown
  • The Bookstore by Deborah Meyler
  • The Mouse-Proof Kitchen by Saira Shah

I also read a couple of fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen after I visited the H.C. Andersen museum in Odense (I was so inspired by this fabulous museum). So a bit of variety and some books in translation which is always a good thing. Some books I enjoyed more than others and in case you are wondering, my top three books would be The Chemistry of Death, Salinger Contract and Excellent Women.

Let me know if you read some of these and what you thought. Alright, I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you in blogland!

The Return

Hello Friends! I’m back home, back to work and back to spending time with my mom, running errands and all that. I miss vacation. Oh well, it’s not all that bad because look at what was waiting for me:

packagesSome of these are ARCs and the top two are books one of my aunts sent me.

So over this next few days and weekend I’ll slowly be trying to get our house back in order, catching up on emails and oh dear, my feedly is bursting with all kinds of goodness you guys have been up to! I’ve missed reading your blogs.

I also have quite a bunch of reviews to work on as I read 12 books while on vacation – yippee! Some good stuff, some ok stuff but regardless it was just wonderful to have so much time to read. I read quite a variety of books so I’m looking forward to telling you about those.

Oh and before I forget I did promise to tell you about my bookish buys overseas. Here’s what I got:

vacationbooksIsn’t my mug cute? Two of the books were from my visits to bookstores in Denmark and one was from a visit to one of my favorite bookstores in Germany – Hugendubel in Hannover. Actually, one thing I was very happy to notice when I was in Hannover is that there are three major bookstores all within walking distance of one another and all seemed to have customers browsing and buying. And, yes, we visited all three as we typically do and we bought books, magazines, and other little gifts.

Anyway, that’s the news for now.  I do have lots more pictures to share but it may take me a while to put those up. I promise to keep you posted on that.

In the meantime, I’ve missed you friends! Tell me what’s been going on with you and what good books you’ve been reading.
