Journal Tags

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I got to do a bit of reading and finished my book for my book group meeting this Tuesday. Yay. I’m not sure what to think of the book as parts of it were great and others didn’t seem to fit with the overall tone. Anyway, I’ll tell you more about that later.

washitagsLast night though I couldn’t settle down with a book so whenever that happens it probably means I need to create a bit. So I took some tags and my many rolls of washi tape and I made some journal tags.

I used a lot of washi tape, rubber stamps, my favorite Stabilo pens and colorful yarns. The tags have journal prompts and usually I send these with my journals.

They were fun to make and super fast so I think I’ll probably make those again another time. I love to make tags as they are a great way to try new mixed media techniques.

Now, I am thinking about starting a new book before going to bed. I don’t really need to start any new books and I have some good ones going on but I feel like the mystery I just finished didn’t live up to my expectations so I’m in the mood to visit with some favorite characters. DCI Banks, Inspector Lynley, oh so many good ones I don’t know who to choose. I’ll keep you posted.

Currently Reading

I’ve been talking about all the new books on my stacks but how about I talk about my current reads now? I’m still reading Evil and the Mask by Fuminori Nakamura. I mentioned this one early in the month. Actually, I’m close to the end but this is a dark book with unlikeable characters and it’s not the book I want to pick up right before sleep.  I’m going to try to finish it this weekend though because it is due back at the library soon.

Unfortunately Mansfield Park by Jane Austen has remained largely untouched after such a good start. I feel like this is a book I need to spend more than 15 minutes with and I just need a good chunk of time to enjoy it. So for now the bookmark remains at page 30.

The one book I am enjoying a lot and pick up over all the others is The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes. I think this one is going to count for both the Romance Reading Challenge and the Postal Challenge. It’s ok to double-dip right? This book is just so readable. It’s not as gut-wrenching as Me Before You but it’s a good story.

This week I started Don’t Ever Get Old by Daniel Friedman. I don’t think this book is one that would have caught my attention but it’s a book group book which I need to finish by next week. This is why it’s great to belong to book groups because you try books you may not pick up on your own! I’m glad I’m reading this because this book is a hoot. Some funny stuff here folks.

I was planning to add Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier to my current reads because I was going to join in the Slaves discussion this month. Well, guess what? I wrote the date wrong on my calendar and discussion has already started. Still I would love to read this book so who knows I may just pick it up over the weekend.

Anyway these are the books I’m spending my weekend with, how about you? Hope you all have a super weekend!

More Library Books

I really didn’t want to go to the library this week but I had a couple of holds waiting for me that were about to expire, and well we can’t have that can we? So more new books to add to my stacks. So here’s what I got:

libbooksAlive at the Center is a poetry collection of contemporary poems from the pacific northwest. I like this from the back cover: “it’s a cultural conversation between urban centers whose unique perspectives share a common landscape.”

Carnival by Rawi Hage is the story of a taxi driver in a crime-ridden apocalyptic metropolis. Along the way he meets a book-loving passenger. This sounds totally quirky. Anyone read this?

The Sudden Disappearance of the Worker Bee by Serge Quadruppani. A mystery featuring Commissario Simona Tavianello. I love a good Italian mystery.

Lost by S.J. Bolton. Lacey Flint is becoming one of my favorite characters from a mystery series. I must know what she is up to in this, the third book in the series.

Calling Dr. Laura by Nicole J. Georges. I haven’t read very many graphic novels in the past couple of years and I do enjoy them so this one was a hold I placed after looking for some recently published graphic novels.

So that’s the latest haul. Now I need to get back to my current reads which I’ll tell you about soon.
