I’ve been talking about all the new books on my stacks but how about I talk about my current reads now? I’m still reading Evil and the Mask by Fuminori Nakamura. I mentioned this one early in the month. Actually, I’m close to the end but this is a dark book with unlikeable characters and it’s not the book I want to pick up right before sleep. I’m going to try to finish it this weekend though because it is due back at the library soon.
Unfortunately Mansfield Park by Jane Austen has remained largely untouched after such a good start. I feel like this is a book I need to spend more than 15 minutes with and I just need a good chunk of time to enjoy it. So for now the bookmark remains at page 30.
The one book I am enjoying a lot and pick up over all the others is The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes. I think this one is going to count for both the Romance Reading Challenge and the Postal Challenge. It’s ok to double-dip right? This book is just so readable. It’s not as gut-wrenching as Me Before You but it’s a good story.
This week I started Don’t Ever Get Old by Daniel Friedman. I don’t think this book is one that would have caught my attention but it’s a book group book which I need to finish by next week. This is why it’s great to belong to book groups because you try books you may not pick up on your own! I’m glad I’m reading this because this book is a hoot. Some funny stuff here folks.
I was planning to add Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier to my current reads because I was going to join in the Slaves discussion this month. Well, guess what? I wrote the date wrong on my calendar and discussion has already started. Still I would love to read this book so who knows I may just pick it up over the weekend.
Anyway these are the books I’m spending my weekend with, how about you? Hope you all have a super weekend!
I read Jamaica Inn – more memorable than I would have expected over time. I’ll look in to the Friedman book. I could use a funny one. Though I’ve got Rosie’s Project I could read and I hear that one is pretty entertaining. I do hope to read Mansfield Park some day. I wonder if the audio is good.
Jamaica Inn is a great read. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it whenever you get to it!
I don’t know how you read so many books at once! I’ve never heard of Jamaica Inn but I do love her…she never disappoints. I’m going to have to track that one down.
I’ll be finishing up Jamaica Inn on Saturday and then getting back to Bring Up the Bodies. I hope you don’t give up on Mansfield Park. It’s not my favorite Austen but it is still a really good book. Though I know what you mean about needing a chunk of time to spend with it.
I read a book this month for a book group that wasn’t something I would have read otherwise. It turned out to be a good one too. I will have to look for Don’t Ever Get Old.
I am glad you are enjoying The Last Letter From Your Lover. I really need to give that author a try.
I really need to read Jojo Moyes.
Loved Me Before You! Our book club is reading it now – I hope they all love it as much as I did 🙂
I picked up Jamaica Inn after the fact. I read it years ago and thought I would pass this time around since I have so many other books calling for my attention, but then after hearing how much everyone was enjoying it I pulled my copy from the shelves after all. I think I have bad luck with classics sometimes for the same reason–they usually need a nice long chunk of time to give them proper attention and so often I am only reading in fits and starts….. Looks like you have some other really great reads on the go, though, too!
