The Last Batch

I have one library request pending and last week I picked up a few extra books but this is it. I am going on a library ban for a couple of weeks. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold out but I really need to read more from my stacks.

So here are the books I recently picked up. Honestly I may not even get to read them but I checked them out because I wanted to make sure to add them to my TBR list and I thought if I had a bit more time to look through them then I would be sure to add them to my list.

  • Anatomy of Murder by Imogen Robertson. From the cover, London, 1781. The streets seethe with rumor and conspiracy as the king’s navy battles the French. And while the banks of the Thames swarm with the hustle and bustle of life, a body is dragged form its murky waters.
  • The Rhetoric of Death by Judith Rock. From reviews, First-novelist Rock brings firsthand knowledge of dance, choreography, acting, police investigation, and teaching to the beginning of a mystery series set in seventeenth-century Paris and featuring Jesuit teacher Charles du Luc.
  • Ghosts Know by Ramsey Campbell. A straight-shooting radio talk-show host and a glib fake psychic make intriguing sparring partners in this suspenseful thriller

Have you read any of these? Should I start one now?

Actually I do have a few other library books out but those are renewals. I think my library ban should really be longer to have any effect on my reading stacks but I don’t know how long I can resist checking out new books. They are so tempting aren’t they? What have you checked out recently?

Currently Reading

Here we are at the end of February and I feel like the reading stack I started the month with has not really changed. Granted some other books have been added and moved off but it seems pretty constant to me.

I don’t mind if a book takes me a while to finish but when it goes on for longer than a month I don’t feel as motivated to finish it. Do you ever feel that way?

So here are my current reads:

  • Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Seriously guys, I am enjoying this book but for whatever reason others book jump to the front of the line. Still stuck on page 50 or so.
  • A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy. This is an easy read. Maybe that’s why I’m making progress with it. A wide cast of characters who’ll find themselves spending a week in winter in a beautiful hotel in Ireland. I wouldn’t mind spending a week in Ireland myself.
  • The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles by Katherine Pancol. I have this one on my Kindle and I’m still stuck at 6%.

So hopefully this week I should be able to read a bit in these and at least make some progress. I’m trying not to add any new books to the pile so I can focus on these.

Weekend Wrap Up

We had a great weekend of catching up with new friends over dinner, going to the bookstore, and a bike ride. Unfortunately I didn’t get around to catching up with crafting, emails and other things but I guess that will happen over the week.

So I am thinking of taking a crafty class on embroidery. With that in mind I looked through a couple of books and magazines at the bookstore. I glanced through The Hand Embroidered Haven by Megan Frock and Stitch-opedia by Helen Winthorpe Kendrick. One of my favorite things about bookbinding is the sewing part so I figure this would be like an extension. Plus, I already have quite a collection of embroidery floss which I use for my beaded journals.

Anyway, I don’t really need another hobby as I already have a hard time finding time to bookbind but I don’t know, I sort of imagine the possibilities of combining both one day. There is a local shop where they teach embroidery, knitting and other needle arts so I may just sign up for a class and see how it goes. I may be putting too much thought into this and just need to try and see if I even like it!

What else? Ok guys, I finally read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green and I hate to even say this because I know a lot of people have raved about it but there were some things that bothered me. I’ll try to put my thoughts together on this one and tell you what didn’t work for me. I didn’t hate the book but I don’t think it will go on my list as a favorite read of the year.

So that’s about it for my weekend. I hope you all had a super one and here’s to a great week ahead!
