I have one library request pending and last week I picked up a few extra books but this is it. I am going on a library ban for a couple of weeks. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold out but I really need to read more from my stacks.
So here are the books I recently picked up. Honestly I may not even get to read them but I checked them out because I wanted to make sure to add them to my TBR list and I thought if I had a bit more time to look through them then I would be sure to add them to my list.
- Anatomy of Murder by Imogen Robertson. From the cover, London, 1781. The streets seethe with rumor and conspiracy as the king’s navy battles the French. And while the banks of the Thames swarm with the hustle and bustle of life, a body is dragged form its murky waters.
- The Rhetoric of Death by Judith Rock. From reviews, First-novelist Rock brings firsthand knowledge of dance, choreography, acting, police investigation, and teaching to the beginning of a mystery series set in seventeenth-century Paris and featuring Jesuit teacher Charles du Luc.
- Ghosts Know by Ramsey Campbell. A straight-shooting radio talk-show host and a glib fake psychic make intriguing sparring partners in this suspenseful thriller
Have you read any of these? Should I start one now?
Actually I do have a few other library books out but those are renewals. I think my library ban should really be longer to have any effect on my reading stacks but I don’t know how long I can resist checking out new books. They are so tempting aren’t they? What have you checked out recently?
I’ve read three in Robertson’s Westerman/Crowther series and enjoyed them all, but liked the first one best. This is the second one (the only one that I’ve missed) and influences the next two. I don’t now why I never went back and read it.
The Rhetoric of Death and Ghosts Know both sound interesting!
I’m afraid I’ve forsaken the library, and I feel guilty.
I’ve not read any of them, but I totally understand your library ban! I’ve got a semi-ban going on at the moment. I say semi because at least once a week I can’t seem to help myself and put a hold request on one book. But one book is better than the 3-4+ I had been working at. Good luck!
I haven’t read any of them, I’m afraid, but they all sound good!
I confess I don’t use the library much at all. We go two or three times a month on Saturdays for Mouse’s sake. She likes to browse the shelves and select books for us to read after she’s worn herself out at soccer class and from playing at the park. 🙂
I actually went to the library yesterday. I hadn’t been because my TBR is crazy, but we were out for a walk and I finally wanted to see what my new (to me) library looked like!
Jenclair – There are so many series that I sometimes “forget” about. Good ones but for some reason just haven’t gotten back to. I guess that happens when you follow so many right? Glad to hear you enjoyed this one! And, don’t worry about not making it to the library – I probably need to stop visiting mine so often so I can read my books!
Stefanie – I understand. It is so hard! I typically try to just check out 3-4 books but have to go on a library ban every once in a while to at least make a little dent in my stacks!
Literary Feline – I think it’s wonderful that even if you aren’t checking books out at least you are taking Mouse so she can learn to love the library – which it sounds like she’s on her way to being a regular little bookworm 🙂
Kailana – When I used to live in Dallas it was a bit harder to not go to the library because my branch was wonderful. Now, not so much but I do still like to go. Did you post about your new library? Maybe you took some pictures!
I have to get my library books under control, too. I have two library books started at the moment! I really want to read Imogen Robertson–I’m not familiar with the other two however. At least there were only three books….lately my stacks have been a little crazy! 😉
If you haven’t decided, or your books aren’t overdue 🙂 — Imogen Robertson is very very good!
