Teaser Tuesday

tuesdayToday I’m going with a Teaser Tuesday post. This meme is hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat The rules: grab your current read, open to a random page, and share two (2 or 3) “teaser” sentences from that page while avoiding any spoilers.

Are you ready? Here are a couple of teasers from my book:

“It was an eerie spot altogether, as mysterious in its way as a gloomy Gothic castle under midnight skies. In these woods time had no meaning. They had not changed in centuries, and there was a feeling of occupation not wholly human.” pg. 2

And, here’s another from:

“Then it happened. She dropped the book with a harsh gasp, her hands flying to her throat. Ishtar groaned irritably and turned over, but did not wake. Gradually the thud of Ellen’s heart quieted but she still sat twisted about, staring into the dim corner by the door.”pg. 44

These teasers are from Witch by Barbara Michaels. Spooky aren’t they? I think I picked up a great read as part of my R.I.P. Challenge. How about you, are you reading any books involving ghosts, witches or demons?

Hello October

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat a nice weekend we had. Great weather, time with friends and even a visit to Half Price Books. I got to spend some time with one of my dear friends on Saturday. We went to lunch at a cool little place and then of course for some coffee. I found a great coffee shop and just wish it was a little closer to me so I could go visit again soon.

On my visit to Half Price Books I was hoping to find a couple of books for my upcoming book group meet ups but no luck. So instead I decided to look for some spooky reads and in particular I wanted to find books by Barbara Michaels. I lucked out and got two, Witch and The Crying Child. I don’t recall having read these before so I was happy to add them to my collection.

I’ve forgotten to mention that I have read a couple of short stories from Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. One in particular, The Crawl Space by Joyce Carol Oates, was really good. You can read an excerpt here but I warn you, you’ll probably want to find out what happens next so you’ll have to look for the magazine.

Quick post for tonight because I want to get back to my books before it’s time for bed. Let me know what you were up to this weekend and if you found any good books.

Month In Review

MonthInReviewSeptember is at an end and it’s time for my month in review. I have several books I’m still in the middle of that I’ll be carrying into October but here’s what I finished in September.

I read After You by Jojo Moyes, which I just reviewed. This was perhaps the most disappointing of the bunch. I also read A Killing Spring by Gail Bowen which was a mystery set in Canada. I really liked this one but wish I had read the first books in the series as I did feel just a bit out of the loop.

My other two books though were fantastic reads. I absolutely loved Perfect Days by Raphael Montes. Not only that but this book also counts for both my R.I.P. Challenge and Books In Translation challenge. Yay, progress.

And, just last night I finished Gabi, A Girl In Pieces by Isabel Quintero. I loved this book so much. I’ll try to do a quick write about it soon but trust me, this is one to add to your reading list.

Things to look forward to in October? Well, hopefully more spooky reads for the R.I.P. Challenge. And, of course to finish my current reads which I’ll tell you about soon.

Hope you have a great weekend and I’d love to hear what you are looking forward to in October. Any reading goals?
