Month In Review

Time to say goodbye to another month. This week has been a bit hectic for me what with networking and other job hunt related things that I feel like I am more than ready for a weekend break. Of course, I’m thinking about how December is upon us and that usually flies by with all of the holiday happenings but I’m going to try and take deep breaths, relax and hopefully look forward to some great books.

November was a great reading month even though when I was thinking back to books read for a moment I thought I hadn’t made much progress but I finished five books in November and they were:

The Nearness of You by Dorothy Garlock
Three Floors Up by Eshkol Nevo
The Loving Husband by Christobel Kent
Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz
The Folded Clock by Heidi Julavits

The only one I wasn’t too fond of was The Loving Husband. My favorite of all these was definitely Three Floors Up by Eshkol Nevo. I have another of his books on my shelves so I’m excited to read more by this author. And, I know you are tired of me saying, I’m behind on reviews but I am! My goal is to get all my mini reviews done in the month of December. We’ll see how that goes.

I have some bookish fun to look forward to in December as my book group celebrates the end of the year with a little dinner and book exchange. There are also new reading challenges to make, take stock of the whole year and plan for the next. I can’t believe that’s so soon. As if that weren’t enough, I just saw a list on Book Riot about the 101 Books to look forward to in 2018. Ack, my reading list just exploded.

Anyway, I hope you have a fabulous weekend and let me know what you are looking forward to in December!

Nonfiction November Week 5: New To My TBR

It’s time to wrap up Nonfiction November and this week’s topic is hosted by Lory at Emerald City Book Review: It’s been a month full of amazing nonfiction books! Which ones have made it onto your TBR? Be sure to link back to the original blogger who posted about that book!

I haven’t had a chance to read as many nonfiction books as I would have liked – actually I’m still trying to finish one! But, my TBR list has definitely gotten longer. Here are just a few of the books that I’ve added to my list.

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore via Kim at Time 2 Read
Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann via Kim at Sophisticated Dorkiness
Option B by Sheryl Sandberg via Stacey at Unruly Reader
The Getaway Car by Ann Patchett via Sarah at Sarah’s Bookshelves
Code Girls by Liza Mundy via Susie at Novel Visits
My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor via CurlyGeek at The Book Stop
Bellevue by David Oshinsky via JoAnn at Lakeside Musing

I’ve really enjoyed participating in this event. Got to “meet” new book bloggers, read some great book reviews and got excited about reading nonfiction. Thank you to the hosts:

Katie at Doing Dewey

Weekend Recap

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend. We did a bit of biking, bookstore visiting, organizing and a lot of relaxing! One of the highlights of our weekend though was a visit to the new Austin Central Library.

The library is beautiful with a lot of open spaces and a rooftop terrace. We went through all the floors kind of quickly though as there were a lot of visitors but I would love to go back another day and do a bit more wandering around. Unfortunately the Recycled Reads shop was closed during our visit and the cafe isn’t open yet.

One thing I’d love to check out on our next visit is the Zine section. They have quite the collection but zines aren’t available for check-out so next time I need to plan a bit more time to look through some of those.

While the new library is beautiful, I don’t think I’ll be visiting that branch often as it’s located downtown and I don’t want to deal with the traffic woes. Still it’ll be fun to visit every once in a while. Of course a visit to the library is not complete without some books checked out.

I got Signs for Lost Children by Sarah Moss, Never Look An American In the Eye by Okey Ndibe and Blue Light Yokohama by Nicolas Oregon. Have you guys read any of these books? Let me know if you have.

Oh and you know what else was great? On our visit to Barnes & Noble on Friday they were having a sale of 30% off of all magazines and guess what I found? Flow Book for Paper Lovers 5. I have all of these editions and love them and it’s great to get these at a discount.

The only thing that was kind of stalled this weekend was my reading so I better get to it now. Let me know what you were up to and if you bought any books over the weekend.
