I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend. We did a bit of biking, bookstore visiting, organizing and a lot of relaxing! One of the highlights of our weekend though was a visit to the new Austin Central Library.
The library is beautiful with a lot of open spaces and a rooftop terrace. We went through all the floors kind of quickly though as there were a lot of visitors but I would love to go back another day and do a bit more wandering around. Unfortunately the Recycled Reads shop was closed during our visit and the cafe isn’t open yet.
One thing I’d love to check out on our next visit is the Zine section. They have quite the collection but zines aren’t available for check-out so next time I need to plan a bit more time to look through some of those.
While the new library is beautiful, I don’t think I’ll be visiting that branch often as it’s located downtown and I don’t want to deal with the traffic woes. Still it’ll be fun to visit every once in a while. Of course a visit to the library is not complete without some books checked out.
I got Signs for Lost Children by Sarah Moss, Never Look An American In the Eye by Okey Ndibe and Blue Light Yokohama by Nicolas Oregon. Have you guys read any of these books? Let me know if you have.
Oh and you know what else was great? On our visit to Barnes & Noble on Friday they were having a sale of 30% off of all magazines and guess what I found? Flow Book for Paper Lovers 5. I have all of these editions and love them and it’s great to get these at a discount.
The only thing that was kind of stalled this weekend was my reading so I better get to it now. Let me know what you were up to and if you bought any books over the weekend.
That’s a beautiful library. I’ve noticed that many new libraries have that modern look so as to fit in with the modern and the high tech world we’re living now but I’ve to admit I also miss the simple and classic layout of a library where there’s a more coziness feel (perhaps this is only me). That said, I still love libraries no matter how they look. 🙂
Hope you enjoy those books and have a great week!
Although I, too, admire some of the modern libraries (and ours is modern), like Melody, I miss the traditional and cozy feeling of the libraries I grew up with. Even though our modern library isn’t as impressive as this one, I love our librarians and workers. 🙂
We did a quick turn trip to Austin for Thanksgiving with my husband’s family. ONE DAY I’ll be there long enough to set up a book date with you!
Wow, what am amazing library! I’d love to see the inside and check out the rooftop terrace, too.
That’s a pretty awesome looking library! Rod & I just went to our local library today and we both found some books we wanted to read. I need to take some pictures and share them in a post.
I wish I could do some biking, but we’ve had a lot of rain and the roads/paths are soaked! Maybe next week, if we get a break from the storms.
A zine section?! Fantastic. And that’ll make for a nice little field trip when you decide to visit again and read a few. No books bought here this weekend, but it was a nice quiet relaxing weekend all the same.
You packed a lot into your weekend. It sounds very nice. Ours was busy. I feel like the next several weekends will be crazy busy for us. The Austin Central Library looks amazing! I understand about not wanting to deal with traffic if you can avoid it though. I hope you enjoy your books! Have a great weekend, Iliana.
