Projects

The theme for my weekend is projects. After not working on crafty stuff for almost two months I am quite ready to dive into crafting again. I don’t know if it will be a bit of bookbinding or what but paper will be involved.

Another goal is to post my vacation pictures. I want to see them again although I may become quite sad that I’m here and not over there.

Of course books are never put away in this household. I will try to put a dent into my current reads, The Last Cato and The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. Best of all, my husband and I are planning an evening out at the bookstore.

Hope everyone has some fun projects planned. Happy weekend!

Temptation

How could my mom do this to me? She asked me if I would go to the library and pick her up some movies. Doesn’t she realize that as part of my Summer Reading Challenge I’m not supposed to check out library books. I know I don’t have to check out books every time I walk into the library but what’s the fun in that.

So I thought I’d do a quick stop and get her movies but of course to get to the movie section I have to pass by the new book section. I looked and saw so many titles I wanted to check out, but I pressed on and my Reading Challenge is saved.

I did pick up the latest Book Sense, and I also had to pick up this CD. Not only do I love Spanish guitar music, but the cover art also caught my attention. I have a poster of that Goya painting hanging in our bedroom. I bought that poster in the Prado Museum in Spain 10 years ago on my first trip to Europe. Now I feel like pulling out photo albums, drinking some vino tinto and listening to some flamenco.

One Book

I was tagged by Stefanie for the One Book Meme. So here it goes:

1. One book that changed your life.
Agua Quemada by Carlos Fuentes. I would consider this the first literary novel I read that wasn’t for a class assignment. It made me realize that a novel can serve other purposes than just entertainment. This book made me think about Mexico on a grander scope and not just in the context of Monterrey, my hometown.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once.
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I’ve read it three times and I really don’t re-read books.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island.
Jane Austen: The Complete Novels. Then I’d finally would have read more than just Northanger Abbey.

4. One book that made you laugh.
Naked by David Sedaris. I’ve read all of his books but this is my fave. If you ever get the opportunity to see him in person you must.

5. One book that made you cry.
The Kite Runner. I had been spoiled about some events in the book yet it still made me cry several times.

6. One book that you wish had been written.
Perhaps a sequel to Confederacy of Dunces.

7. One book that you wish had never been written.
Books written by pop stars. Most need to stick to singing, being celebrities or whatever else they do but leave the book writing to those of us who’ve longed to write a book and have it published.

8. One book you’re currently reading.
The Last Cato by Matlide Asensi

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. This book has been languishing on my nightstand for too long.

10. Now tag five people.
Isabel, Jordan, Sassymonkey, Andi, and Claire.
