A Delicious Lunch

Today for lunch I stopped at a library book sale. Now that’s what a call a great lunch hour. It was a small sale but I still managed to find some good stuff. Here’s what I got:

Scribbling The Cat by Alexandra Fuller. I read Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight a couple of years ago and have been wanting to read this follow-up.

A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters. My mom is always going on about how great the Brother Cadfael PBS series is so I’m looking forward to checking this out.

A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. This is one of the next year’s choices for my Foreign Authors book group.

Perfectly Pure and Good by Frances Fyfield. According to Publisher’s Weekly this is a nimble meld of ghost story, moral fable and psychological drama. Sounds good.

A Death in Vienna by Frank Tallis. A murder mystery set in the stormy, atmospheric Austrian capital at the turn of the 20th century. I had to scoop this one up because you know how much I love historical mysteries.

A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle. Am I the last person who hasn’t read this?

Frida by Barbara Mujica. What can I say but Viva Frida!

All this for $3.25. Not bad at all.

Also thank you to everyone who shared their Amazon experiences. I did hear back from them and they have already sent me another copy which I should be getting on Friday. So far their return process seems quite easy. I’ll keep you posted.

A Rant

I get home today and have a package from Amazon. Yippee, I’m sure it’s The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz for the next Slaves discussion. Well, it is but the book’s back cover is bent and torn. I bought a new book so why am I getting this beat up copy?

I don’t have a problem with ratty books if they are used books but if I’m buying a brand new book I do want it to be a nice copy. I mean, wouldn’t everyone expect that?

Sad thing is that this is the third time I’ve received a book from Amazon that is in bad condition. The other times I’ve let it go but I’m getting tired of this.

Has this happened to you? What would you do? I’ve already sent off an email to them so I’ll keep you posted on what they say.

An Aspirational Meme

Litlove started this great meme and I’m joining in with the others who’ve already posted it.

What part of the past would you bring back if you possibly could?
Christmas 2000. It was the last Christmas I had with my dad.

What character trait would you alter if you could?
Be more patient.

Which skill would you like to have the time and energy to really work on?
As I’m quite impatient I’d love to have more time and energy to practice yoga and meditation. I know that would help me a lot.

Are you money poor, love poor, time poor or freedom poor?
Time poor. I have too many hobbies and interests and not enough time for all of them.

What element of your partner’s character would you alter if you could?
Do I have to answer this? Heh. Perhaps that he be more of a conversationalist although he says when we are in groups I talk enough for the both of us. He’s right.

What three things are you going to do next year that you’ve been meaning to do for ages but never got around to?
I’d like to learn how to do jewelry beading, print my digital photos of my last three summer vacations and put them in a scrapbook, and I’d love to take a class in acrylics. See why I need more time.

If your fairy godmother gave you three wishes, what would you wish for?
Good health and happiness all around. I’d save the other wish.

What one thing would you change about your living conditions?
I need more room. A room solely devoted for crafting and another for a library. My house is a constant mess.

How could the quality of your free time be improved?
Enjoy the downtime. Sometimes I spend my downtime making lists and thinking about what next. Also, worry less. I worry about everything.

What change have you made to your life recently that you’re most proud of?
I tried jewelry soldering this year. I can be quite the girly-girl so to try something where protective eyeglasses were needed was kind of a big deal.
