Christmas Meme

No book talk this evening but something to help me get into the Christmas spirit. I borrowed this meme from SciFiChick and I know Kaliana and Nessie have also completed it. Anyone else?

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
It’s probably Mrs. Claus who does all the work

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored lights on the tree but not outdoor decorations.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope

5. When do you put your decorations up?
We haven’t put up a tree in the past four years. I just haven’t really been in the mood. This year though we will have a tree and hopefully I’ll do that this weekend.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Tamales, especially the sugar kind.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Every Christmas was great when I was growing up. It was the time when all of my family (who lives in Mexico) was together again. My parents and I would drive from Dallas to Monterrey with a car full of presents. In the past few years all sorts of things have happened preventing my family from being all together, hence why I probably haven’t felt the Christmas spirit in a while. I think it’s time to make some new memories and traditions.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I was six when I found a stash of presents hidden in my mom’s sewing room. I just “knew” then.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
We open all gifts on Christmas Eve

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Lots of random ornaments. Old, new, kitschy, handmade, etc.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
It’s pretty but living in Dallas it’s not a good thing. No one knows how to drive in that stuff.

12. Can you ice skate?
No. I’ve never even tried it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Anything Barbie. I was such a girly-girl.

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Being with my family and friends

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Buñelos

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Playing loteria until it was time to open presents

17. What tops your tree?
An angel

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
I’m supposed to say giving right? Ha,ha. I do love to buy gifts but I admit it, I love opening presents too. I don’t care what it is, just opening a present is fun.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Silent Night

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Yummy.

531

I did get to stay home from work (yea!) and finished cataloguing my new books in Bookpedia. I have 531 unread books. Why do I keep going to the library if I have so many books yet to read?

It’s been fun to see the books and organize them again. So many get stuck in the back of the shelves and I forget about them. As I’ve been going through each book sometimes I wonder why a particular one sounded so interesting in the first place. And, others I must have really wanted to read because I have duplicate copies of them.

Some of you asked me about Bookpedia. I know LibraryThing is a popular tool for cataloguing books and I like the the community feel to it. I guess the biggest reason why I went with Bookpedia is because I can download my library and/or wishlist to my iPod. Which I hope means, no more duplicate copies. Perhaps you can do that with LibraryThing too though.

Next I will be switching my wishlist (currently an excel spreadsheet) to Bookpedia and cataloguing the books I have read and are a part of my collection. I can tell there is much work ahead.

Wishing & Hoping

The stag bells, winter snows, summer has gone
Wind high and cold, the sun low, short its course
The sea running high.
Deep red the bracken; its shape is lost;
The wild goose has raised its accustomed cry,
Cold has seized the birds’ wings;
Season of ice, this is my news.
– Irish poem, 9th Century

It’s that time of the year in North Texas, time for winter weather warnings! I watched the news this evening and honestly there is nothing about the world or local news. It’s all about the potential snow/ice/winter weather we may have by tomorrow morning.

So this evening, I’ll go to bed and hope that the weather folks come through for me because if the weather is bad in the morning, I won’t be able to drive in to work. And, that means a day to lounge and read.

Besides, I am working on a BIG project. I’m cataloguing my books. I’m addicted to Bookpedia so I’ve got hours of fun ahead of me.
