Library Holds

I’ve been doing very good about reading books mainly from my stacks but I got notice that two new library books were being held for me so I had to go get them. They sound so good and I’ve been waiting for them but do I stop reading my other books? Hmm, I’m afraid that if I even start one for a sneak peak I won’t want to stop.

Wanna hear what I got? The Sonnet Lover by Carol Goodman. I have really enjoyed her books and am hoping this one will be just as good. Actually I still need to read The Ghost Orchid as well but as Sonnet Lover is the latest one then that’s the one I want to read now. My other book is A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny. Her first book introducing Inspector Gamache was one of my favorite mysteries read last year so I’m looking forward to see what happens next in the series.

And, to make things even better I had a copy of The Poisoned Pen Press catalog waiting for me. Between this one, Bas Bleu, and Hesperus Press, I’m beginning to feel it’s time for a book splurge. What do you think?

Anyway it’s been raining all evening so I haven’t done anything but read tonight. No gym, no grocery store, no errands, just books. A good night.

Let’s Discuss

I almost forgot, the book discussion of The Mermaids Singing has started over at The Written Word. Hope you’ll join in. I did read the book and found it pleasant enough. You can read more of my thoughts here.

Today I got a call from the barrista at Starbucks reminding me about their new book group. Darn. A long time ago I would have been over the moon to be invited to join a book group but now that I’m pretty active in two groups I can’t really see myself joining another. She was just so enthusiastic about it when she mentioned it and well I get carried away too. Who wouldn’t when discussing books right? Oh well, I’ll call her. Just wait, I’ll be going to another book group soon. Ha.

Finally, while I was looking for some books earlier tonight I thought about Bas Bleu and headed over to their site. What do you know, you can now see the whole catalog online – woot! I love the variety of their books and bookish gifts. Currently I’m intrigued by the six titles they are carrying from Felony & Mayhem Press.

A Little Poetry

Today just feels like a poetry kind of day. So here is a poem that made me smile and made me think of my own reading of Don Quixote (not that DQ is dull but it is slow going).

Four years ago I started reading Proust.
Although I’m past the halfway point, I still
Have seven hundred pages of reduced
Type left before I reach the end. I will
Slog through. It can’t get much more dull than what
Is happening now: he’s buying crepe-de-chine
Wraps and a real, well-documented hat
For his imaginary Albertine.
Oh.. what a slimy sort he must have been —
So weak, so sweetly poisonous, so fey!
Four years ago, by God! — and even then
How I was looking forward to the day
I would be able to forgive, at last,
And, to forget Rememberance of Things Past.

I love this poetry collection and turn to it all the time. Today I lucked out and found Good Poems for Hard Times in the bargain section on Amazon. I ordered it and can’t wait to get it.
