I met up with my Murder on Mondays book group today to discuss Tainted Blood (Jar City – U.S. Title). I had nominated this book so I was cringing a bit at first because everyone seemed so serious. I thought they may not ever allow me to nominate a book again. ha, ha. Good thing is that it seemed to go over pretty well with the group.
I will miss the September meeting as I’ll be on vacation but we’ve got some good stories coming up I think. In October we’ll be reading The Blue Edge of Midnight by Jonathon King followed by Murphy’s Law by Rhys Bowen. I can tell you that I’m already looking forward to the Bowen book – a historical, yay!
In other mystery news, I’ve picked up a new mystery which I’m counting towards my Summer Mystery Reading challenge. That means I’m on book five of the six. Oh wow, I may actually complete a challenge. Well I better not get too excited yet. Anyway, I got an advance copy of Slipknot by Linda Greenlaw which seems like it will be an enjoyable summer read.
Off to do some reading and relaxing. I’ve got another book group meeting on Tuesday.
You have a lot going on!
See you tonight at bookgroup…
Christine – Looking forward to book group – should be fun!
I love the idea of bookgroup meetings – exchanging ideas about books, considering new perspectives, bonding with people, making friends. Unfortunately I live in a very small time where nothing of the kind ever takes places 🙁 But at least there’s blogland!
The post reminds me that I have yet to review a couple mysteries I’ve finished. Got all caught up with new books and shopping.
Ha…I have never suggested a book for book club but the funny thing is several people who have followed the blog made suggestion of what I read to their book club! 🙂
You know, I wish I could find a book group here to join but there are none or else, they are very private ones. I love a good murder mystery but haven’t found a good one in a long time. Any recommendations?
Nymeth – I’m very lucky to have found a couple of good book groups. Between those and Blogland my TBR list is out of control 🙂
Matt – You’ve been book shopping again? Can’t wait to read about your finds! Now that is too cool about about the book suggestions. I’ve done that too actually. For example, I suggested The Book Thief to my book group based on blog friends recommendations – yay!
Kisane – Have you tried any Ian Rankin or Martha Grimes? Or how about Jacqueline Winespear. Ranking is a bit more edgy, Grimes a bit more cozy and Winespear a historical. Let me know if you want another suggestion. I love a good mystery 🙂
I have had a copy of Jar City now for about a year–I really need to get around to reading it. I have been wanting to try Rhys Bowen as well–I think I would enjoy her mysteries (it is a woman author, isn’t it?).
Danielle – Ooh I think you’d love Jar City… but I know how that goes. So many books still waiting to be read right 🙂 And, yep, I have a feeling I’ll enjoy her (?) series – gotta love the historicals!
