That’s right, not even a mile away from my apartment is a Half Price Bookstore. You know how much I love HPB and now I can even walk to one! Granted, my walking is going to be limited to either early in the morning or late in the day as the temps are inching closer and closer to 100 every day.

But, back to HPB. I decided to stop there today instead of going to the public library as I’m still waiting on my new driver’s license and I need that before I can get my library card. I was hoping to find Glimpses of the Moon by Edith Wharton for the next Slaves discussion but no luck. I’ve actually looked for this one in several bookstores and nothing. I know I can easily order it online but now I almost feel like I’m on a quest to find this at a bookstore. Heh.

I did find Cruddy by Lynda Barry at HPB so it was still a successful visit. I adored One Hundred Demons by Barry and have been wanting to read something else by her. This seems like it will be a good one. Anyone read it?

Finally, two things you should check out. Nymeth is hosting the latest Bookworms Carnival. It is a treasure trove of all things Fairy Tale. And, Megan at Po(sey) Sessions just announced Teen Tuesday. You won’t want to miss either of those!

Sunday Drive

Well, so much for participating in the Sunday Salon. I had all the best of intentions but I woke up a bit late and then we spent some time organizing our apartment. Finally when we couldn’t stand to be indoors any longer we decided to go out and see some of our new surroundings.

We saw some beautiful scenery and as luck would have it, we even discovered a two-story Barnes & Noble along the way. We only stopped in for a quick peek but I did pick up one of their newsletters to see what book groups they host and that sort of thing.

I also noted that this store had quite a large Mystery section. Yay. I saw the latest Victoria Thompson book, Murder on Bank Street, which I must get my hands on soon. I really enjoy her Gaslight series. Hmm, I think this calls for a visit to the public library. I can’t wait to get my new library card.

I seem to be blogging so sporadically lately but what with the move, vacation and having to deal with connectivity issues this week it’s just taking me a while to get back into the blogging rhythm. Hopefully things are finally back on track.

So, enough whining and let’s get back to book talk. In the past few weeks I’ve read 13 books – which I need to tell you about one of these days. There are some good ones there, but for now let me tell you about the books that have been holding my interest this week.

First, I’m getting very close to the end of The Ten-Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer. This one has been a bit uneven for me. There are paragraphs with some wonderful insight but then there are some parts that just don’t seem to fit. Still it has been an interesting read so far.

My other book was one I left behind when I went on vacation. Sometimes when I leave a book sitting aside for too long I lose interest but not so with Trick of the Eye by Jane Stanton Hitchcock. I’m still very keen to see how the story plays out.

And, today I started In the Woods by Tana French. It has a wonderful prologue describing an idyllic summer setting which slowly turns into something much more intense and scary. I can’t wait to see what awaits.
