Bookish Bits

I just snagged my first Treasury on Etsy. What’s a treasury? A collection of handpicked items by Etsy members. Of course you hope that one of these treasuries will be picked for the front page. Anyway, you have to check out my treasury because it’s especially made for bookworms. Hee.

And, as it is that time of the year and people are getting presents together, maybe you still need to get your present ready for the Holiday Swap, check out the Well-Dressed Reader. Some seriously cute necklaces.

While on the subject of bookish gifts, look at this throw and pillow? Tomorrow it’s supposed to get quite chilly here. Those, a good book and a cup of hot chocolate sound so good.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to talk about shopping but just got a bit carried away there. What I did want to tell you is that Dorothy W. has put together a wonderful list of books to choose from for the next Slaves of Golconda reading selection. We won’t be discussing the book until end of January so see, you’ve got plenty of time.

Artsy Day

We had such a fun day on Saturday when we went for the annual East Austin Studio Tour. The tour is an excellent time to view art and get a behind-the-scenes look at where the art is created. This year there were 154 studios opening their doors to the public, events, and all kinds of other happenings. The best part is that now the tour is being held over two weekends, which is a great thing as there is just so much to see!

I picked up some information on art classes and am looking forward to trying some new things next year. You know what I’ve been thinking about for a while? Printmaking and letterpress. I think those go very well with bookmaking don’t you?

Anyway, aside from all the inspiration from the tour we also went to the bookstore in the evening and guess what I found, this magazine called Where Women Create. I’ve seen it before but I think I’d forgotten that it was going to be published on a regular basis. So this gave me more inspiration not so much on my crafty pursuits but more about how to organize my studio. Oh so many wild thoughts floating through my mind.

So, I’m curious if you were to try a new art/craft technique, what would you try?

Alright, I’m going to settle down with a good book for evening. I’ve done quite a bit of reading this weekend but I’ll tell you about those books in another post.

The Catalogue

This afternoon I was planning to spend some time in front of the shelves looking for a new book to start but I made the mistake of going to the mailbox and what did I get? The Persephone Catalogue and the Persephone Biannually. Well, there went the rest of the afternoon reading about the books with the gorgeous gray covers.

My personal library consists of nine Persephone books, and I see that they are now up to 86 books. Hmm, maybe if I’m a good Bookgirl I’ll get one for Christmas. Ha. Or maybe one day Christine and I will go back to the Persephone shop and I can fill up my suitcase with the books.

Anyway, back to reality. I still needed to find a new book to start so I decided to go with one of my Persephones. I’ve read five of the books I own, and because I was sort of in the mood for a thriller type story I decided on The Blank Wall by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding.

How about you, do you love these books too? Have a favorite?
