It’s a Toss-Up

I finished The Weight of Heaven today (more on this book later) and now I don’t know which book to dive into.

Part of me thinks I should start a good historical and By Fire, By Water seems like it would fit the bill perfectly. But it’s evening and I don’t know how gruesome the scenes of the Inquisiton will be so I don’t know that I want to be thinking about that before falling asleep.

I wouldn’t mind starting a book from a favorite mystery series like Close to Home or maybe starting a new series with The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.

Should I go with a novel in translation such as The Unit which is from a Swedish author?

Goodness, tonight is just one of those nights were I can’t figure out what to read next. What do you do? Stare at your stacks or just grab a book and go with it? I’ll let you know which book I ended up selecting tomorrow.

Weekend Report

Today was truly a Monday. My husband had an accident while riding his bike to work when a car cut him off. Luckily he is fine and his bike is fine too but I just wish more people would learn to share the road. Anyway that’s my PSA for the day.

We had a super weekend though and I have to show you some of the pictures we took just so you can see what a great event E.A.S.T. is and why I was so excited to be involved with it even if it was in a small way.

Our first stop of the day was at Flatbed Press which is one of our favorite venues. We saw lithographs being made, chatted with some of the studio artists and saw an really cool photography exhibit.

Our next stop was the Pump Project Satellite as I wanted to see the Women Printmakers studio. I keep saying that I want to take a class in printmaking. Maybe next year. Finally we stopped in at (th)ink tank to get some t-shirts made.

We got to pick our designs and see the guys silkscreen them on the shirts.

And, now here it comes…

Finally, we made a pit stop at The Wondercraft so I could go show my husband where my journals are now being sold. I still think this place is just too cool.

I love all the funky little places in Austin. If you ever want to come visit, coming for the E.A.S.T. event would be a great time to do so. I’m already looking to next year’s event.

Tomorrow it’s back to talking about books. Hope your week has gotten off to a great start.

This & That

Ah, the weekend is almost here and how wonderful is that. We are planning to head back out to the E.A.S.T. Studio Tour to check out other artists. I’m also very excited to report that some of my journals are now at The Wondercraft! It’s a super cool boutique in a trailer. Yes, a trailer. Go check out the link and see what it’s about.

In bookish news I just read an article about a new book by Lynda Barry, Picture This. I just love her storytelling style and how she talks about creativity. I can’t wait to go to the bookstore this weekend and look for it.

Speaking of the bookstore, I feel so out of it when it comes to new books. I really think my energy has been so focused on another area lately that I’m a bit behind on what’s hitting the shelves. I am looking forward to wandering up and down the aisles and taking note of some of the new book titles.

What are your plans for the weekend? I hope they include a lot of bookish goodness. Happy weekend!
