Mystery Or Romance?

I put away Ravens as I was in the mood for a mystery but something a bit more traditional or better yet, a mystery with characters I already know. So finally I thought why not Silent in the Sanctuary by Deanna Raybourn?

silentsanctuary.jpgI read the first book in the series a while back and really enjoyed it. I still remember the first chapter of that book because I thought it had a great opening scene, and so I settled down with the second book in the series last night.

So far I know Lady Julia has been in Italy and is summoned to return back home for Christmas (perfect time to read this book no?). Of course when she arrives at her father’s estate for the grand celebration she finds that Nicholas Brisbane, the handsome inquiry agent she became acquainted with, is also staying at the estate and with a finacée in tow.

I’m enjoying this but where is the mystery? I am beginning to feel as if I’m reading a romance, which there’s nothing wrong with that but I want a corpse to appear here soon! haha… I don’t remember if this was the same in the first book but in this one all the main characters are beautiful and ravishing and that just screams romance to me. I’ve read my share of romance novels long ago so I know what I’m talking about.

Not sure if the series, which now has four books, is more in the romance genre but when I see the covers it does look that way. Anyway, so far it is a fun read and I’ll continue but I’m hoping a mystery is afoot soon.

So have you read these and what did you think?

Oh and I think Trish had a wonderful suggestion for me in my previous post – do mini reviews. Maybe then I can finish some reviews before year end. Stay tuned friends.

This & That

Over the next few days I’m going to come up with my favorite reads of the year and my year in review. It’s always so much fun to do that isn’t it? I don’t make resolutions but next year I may be doing some things a bit differently so I’ll let you know what I’m up to.

I really would like to finish up some reviews before the start of the new year but I’ve fallen very behind and I have five books to review so who knows if I’ll get to them. I really want to though because these past few books have all been great and you need to put them on your to be read list.

This week I have my mystery book group on Tuesday but I gave up on the book so luckily we meet up at a restaurant so I’ll just enjoy my dessert while everyone talks about the book. Haha. I would skip the meeting but we also trade books and I don’t want to miss that.

What else, oh yes, I did start a new book, Ravens by George Dawes Green and it is good but I don’t know that it’s exactly what I was looking for so I may just go with something else tonight. I’ll let you know if I change books. And, yes, still reading just one book at a time for now.

Tomorrow I’m taking the day off to go shopping with my mom. Wish us luck. I can’t stand all the traffic and crowds. Thank goodness I went to a restorative yoga class tonight. Off to read and relax to get ready for tomorrow.

Now This Is Good

Look at what we just got ourselves for Christmas. Now this is much better than the package I opened yesterday!

As it’s the family iPad I can imagine that it’ll be my husband who uses this the most but very excited to finally have one of these. I’m still not sure about ebooks. I think it’ll be great for travel but other than that I imagine that I’ll be sticking with my books. We’ll see. I’ll have to report later.

Now this does come at a perfect time as Sourcebooks has a wonderful promotion to celebrate Jane Austen’s birthday where you can download 16 ebooks! I’m off to check that out.

Oh and I just realize I really need to start putting my list together of my favorite books of the year, the problem is the book I’m currently reading may just end up on my list so I’m probably going to wait just a bit longer to have that ready. Have you got yours ready yet?
