Cough, Sneeze, Repeat

That’s been me pretty much for the past few days. Isn’t it yucky having a cold? I’m so ready for this to be over as it put a serious cramp in my weekend plans. I didn’t get to see Fannie Flagg after all as I was feeling tired and of course didn’t want to spread germs.

So I just stayed in and rested and drank tea. I did finish a very good YA book, Keep Sweet by Michele Dominguez Greene. Stayed tuned for the review and a giveaway!

I also had my first DNF book of the year. Goodness, I hope this year won’t be as bad as last year. I was very excited to read The Fabric of Night by Christoph Peters but ultimately found it difficult to get into because of the narration style. There are two narrators, one is is very clear and to the point but the other narration is first person and reads more like random snapshots of events seen. I don’t know if it just required more concentration than I had given my cold but after 100 or so pages I had to quit.

Normally I don’t keep track of my DNF books for end of the year stats but I think I need to start doing so. Now that’s one number I hope doesn’t go up very high.

Off to continue to rest. Hope you had a great weekend!

Winner & Misc.

Thanks to everyone who entered the drawing for a journal and art kit. I wish I could give out more but stay tuned as I’m sure I’ll have more goodies to share. Thanks to Random.org the winner is: Trish! Congrats! Send me an email with your choice of journal and I’ll get those out to you soon so you can start your journal journey.

So the last few posts have all been about acquiring books and I’ve not even told you what I’ve been reading. I finish Rosy Thornton’s novel, The Tapestry of Love, which was so enjoyable. The perfect book to read over the holiday rush because every time I opened the book it was to sink into a good comforting story. Review coming up next week.

I’m halfway through Family Album by Penelope Lively which is really an interesting look at how members of a family will see and remember events much differently. Words and/or actions can take on so many different meanings to each family member.

So now the weekend. I don’t have major plans which is a good thing as I can’t tell if I’ve got a slight cold or just allergies. Yuck. But hopefully that won’t stop me from going to see Fannie Flagg at BookPeople. I haven’t read any of her books in such a long time but I have fond memories of Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man so I would love to here about her latest book.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget to check in on my Fan Page for a journaling tip this Saturday. Get ready to go on an journal journey!

More New Books

Are you tired of hearing about my new books? It’s just that with gift books, coupons, gift cards, etc. I’ve been on a bit of a book binge lately. I like that. Anyway, as I mentioned I had some Barnes & Nobles gift cards and Borders Bucks to use as well so I got these treats.

  • The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. After thoroughly enjoying The House at Riverton and reading so many good reviews of this book from you guys I couldn’t pass this one up.
  • The Lies That Bind by Kate Carlisle. This is the third entry in the bibliophile mystery series which features a bookbinding sleuth. I don’t think I need to explain why this one would appeal to me right?
  • Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife and just haven’t gotten around to reading anything else by her so this was one to get.

artmag.jpgAnd, not a book but I was thrilled to get the new edition of Art Journaling magazine. It has a feature on LK Ludwig, which I’m excited to read as I took a class with LK at Journalfest a few years ago. I already noticed that some of the journals pictured in the magazine are journals I got to see in person. So cool.

I’m so excited to start all of them. Have you read these? Ok, tomorrow I promise to tell you about my current reads.

Finally, don’t forget that I’m announcing a winner for a journal and art pack kit on Friday. If you haven’t entered you can do so in this post. Good luck!
