Getting Crafty

What a fun time I had at the Etsy Austin Craft party on Friday. We had screen printing, button making, jewelry making and sewing going on. I was helping out Katie from Sophie and the Cat with an upcycle grocery bag project which was all the rage. We used old t-shirts to make grocery bags, actually I think they would have even made a cute little bag for books too. These are bags Katie made.

I carried the excitement from the craft party into the weekend as I finally sat at my studio table and worked on some journals. These are journals I’ve had in mid-progress since March? April? It seems so long ago I’ve lost track. With my old job and new job being so hectic it’s been hard to find that push to do more outside of work. But this weekend I was reminded all over again why I love crafting.

Not only that but when we went to the bookstore this weekend, of course there was time at the bookstore, I found inspiration via a new magazine, Mollie Makes, and a new book, The Art Journal Workshop by Traci Bunkers. I just placed a book order tonight and can’t wait to get The Art Journal Workshop. Looks so good.

So that was my weekend. I didn’t get very much reading done unfortunately but I’m going to read a bit before going to sleep. Tomorrow I’ll tell you about the book giveaway!

Link-O-Rama

Yippee, the weekend is almost here! Do you guys have big plans? I’m going to a craft party and dinner with friends so I’m looking forward to those. I also promise to catch up on blog reading. Goodness, I just can’t seem to stay on top of things lately. I’m not the only one right?

Anyway, short post tonight because I am really liking my new mystery I started yesterday, Death On Demand, and I want to get in a few more chapters before going to sleep, so I have some fun links for you to enjoy.

  • Speaking of mysteries, what synchronicity that I got the Melville House Publishers newsletter announcing some of their latest international crime thrillers. Lots of books I must check out.
  • If you are a mystery lover have you checked out Mystery Rails? You can meet and travel with some of your favorite mystery authors. The private rail cars look wonderful. I’d totally be up for something like this.
  • How about this tote bag? Perfect accessory for any booklover.

Alright, that’s it for now. Stay tuned for a giveaway I’ll be posting next week. In the meantime have a fun weekend everyone and I’ll catch up with you soon!

In Mystery Mode

I don’t know what it is but lately all I want to read are mysteries. I’ve finished one and have three others lined up and ready to start. You want to know what I’ve been reading?

The one I finished today is Sacrifice by S.J. Bolton. I think Bolton was an author I discovered via Danielle. I read one of her books last year and really enjoyed it and this one was another absorbing read. I actually put off my other books to just focus on this one. I’m going to have to see if my library carries more of her books.

After I finished this one I sort of wanted a “cozier” type of mystery and I remembered that I have Death On Demand by Carolyn G. Hart. She’s an author I’ve been wanting to discover for some time now and I know recently Kay had mentioned enjoying the series so I thought it would be a good time to check it out. I already love that the main character is the owner of a mystery bookstore. How cool would that be?

In my car I have The Fourth Man by K.O. Dahl. I only got to read a few pages one day when I was waiting in line and luckily remembered I had the book in the car and had it with me while I waited. Let me tell you, I wouldn’t have minded if my appointment had been a bit behind so I could have read more into this one. I think it’ll be good.

Finally I have Where Memories Lie by Deborah Crombie waiting for me. This is for my mystery book group discussion in a couple of weeks and while I’m excited to read another Crombie book I’m not too thrilled that we are reading this one. You see, I’m still a bit behind in the series and you know how much I don’t like reading out of order. Oh well, I do enjoy my book group a lot so I guess I’ll let it slide this time. Ha.

I have a bunch of other mysteries I want to read and who knows maybe I’ll just make June an all mystery month. So what good mysteries are you reading or want to read?
