I don’t know what it is but lately all I want to read are mysteries. I’ve finished one and have three others lined up and ready to start. You want to know what I’ve been reading?
The one I finished today is Sacrifice by S.J. Bolton. I think Bolton was an author I discovered via Danielle. I read one of her books last year and really enjoyed it and this one was another absorbing read. I actually put off my other books to just focus on this one. I’m going to have to see if my library carries more of her books.
After I finished this one I sort of wanted a “cozier” type of mystery and I remembered that I have Death On Demand by Carolyn G. Hart. She’s an author I’ve been wanting to discover for some time now and I know recently Kay had mentioned enjoying the series so I thought it would be a good time to check it out. I already love that the main character is the owner of a mystery bookstore. How cool would that be?
In my car I have The Fourth Man by K.O. Dahl. I only got to read a few pages one day when I was waiting in line and luckily remembered I had the book in the car and had it with me while I waited. Let me tell you, I wouldn’t have minded if my appointment had been a bit behind so I could have read more into this one. I think it’ll be good.
Finally I have Where Memories Lie by Deborah Crombie waiting for me. This is for my mystery book group discussion in a couple of weeks and while I’m excited to read another Crombie book I’m not too thrilled that we are reading this one. You see, I’m still a bit behind in the series and you know how much I don’t like reading out of order. Oh well, I do enjoy my book group a lot so I guess I’ll let it slide this time. Ha.
I have a bunch of other mysteries I want to read and who knows maybe I’ll just make June an all mystery month. So what good mysteries are you reading or want to read?
I haven’t read many mysteries at all this year, so I’d love it if you had a mystery month so I could get recommendations 🙂
I’ve read Bolton, Hart, and Crombie (Crombie’s series is my favorite, but I’ve enjoyed Bolton and Hart).
I’m wrapped up with Scandinavian authors right now. Recently finished The Stonecutter by Camilla Lackberg and am reading a Kurt Wallender at the moment.
I’ve been in a mystery mood all year! But then I’m super picky, so I end up abandoning a lot of them after 50 or so pages. Or I finish the first one but write off the rest of the series. I think my favourite new-to-me series so far this year is Julia Spencer-Fleming’s Clare Fergusson (begins with In the Bleak Midwinter). The other one that stands out is Thomas King’s DreadfulWater Shows Up; I hope he plans on turning it into a series!
I am in the mystery/crime mode right now, too. I just finished the first Magdalen Nabb, which I know you didn’t really get on with, but it worked for me–I think the setting was just what I needed. I’m now reading a book by Liza Marklund, which I am very much enjoying called Paradise, though it is a little hard to find here, I’m afraid. I’m also reading SJ Bolton’s new one–glad you liked Sacrifice!
I am not in the mood for mysteries, except for the tv show, Law and Order (which is really more crime).
I am still looking for the third Hunger Games book (young adult/sci fi).
Might start on my Arctic reads soon. Have to keep my mind off the heat
I haven’t read any good mysteries lately but I read a really good one by Ruth Rendell a few months back.
I am all about mysteries. Right now I am reading a book called The Twisted Thread about a girl found dead in her dorm at a boarding school. So good!
Nymeth – So far I’m on my second mystery still but it is good 🙂 I don’t know, it may just be a mystery month after all!
jenclair – What did you think of the Lackberg? I tried one of her books earlier this year and wasn’t too impressed. I finished a Wallander book last month which I thought was great. Oh so many mysteries I want to read!
Eva – How do you like the Spencer-Fleming? I thought the first one was pretty good but by the time I got to the third book in the series I didn’t like it so much. I hope you’ll enjoy it though and I’ll be looking for your review.
Danielle – I tried one Nabb book and didn’t like it. I know she gets a lot of rave reviews so I don’t know if I just missed something or what. Ooh you got her new one – can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
Isabel – I haven’t gotten to the third Hunger Games book either. Would love to check it out. You need to start reading the Scandinavian crime books – lots of cold cities 🙂
Kathleen – Ruth Rendell is great isn’t she? It’s been a while since I read one of hers but I have enjoyed several. So good to see you blogging again!
Stephanie – Oh that sounds good & creepy! Can’t wait to read your review!
