Reading Notes

Last week I told you that I had started Partitions by Amit Majmudar but unfortunately as much as I wanted to be totally swept into the story I found I couldn’t get into it. It had almost a dreamy quality that I think would have worked really well for another type of story. To top it off the book was due back at the library so I couldn’t finish it on time.

I can’t believe it, barely into the year and already a DNF. Oh well.

But, like I said yesterday I read a great story by Jojo Moyes which I’ll tell you more about soon and I’ve started another interesting book, The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. I remember when there was quite a bit of buzz going on the blogosphere about this book but as it’s been a while I had forgotten what the book is about and so I went into it without knowing much. So far, I’m really enjoying it and I can’t wait to find out what the big secret is.

I’m hoping to finish this book soon though because I’ve got to get started on Hell Gate by Linda Fairstein for my mystery book group. I’m leading the discussion so I better get with it. I don’t know why but the past few months I’ve stopped reading several books at the same time. I sort of miss having several books to juggle but in a way it’s kind of nice to just devote myself to one book. We’ll see when I change my mind about that.

Oh and a bit later on in the month I know I’ll be picking up The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet by Reif Larson because the Slaves of Golconda have chosen this one for the first read of the year. Yes, I’m putting this on my calendar and hoping to join the discussion.

So that’s a bit of what is on the radar for me. What books are you hoping to read this month?

On A Roll

Tell me the weekend isn’t over. I had such a productive weekend and I feel like if I could have just a couple of more days I would be so happy. I’m sure you feel the same right?

My studio is looking so wonderful, well, it could stand to be de-cluttered in a big way but my new bookshelf/table is great. I can’t wait to show it to you. Not only that but I think just having more space to store items and such helped me get out of a creativity block. I was able to finish 14 journals and worked through some new ideas. I don’t think I’ve told you but now my husband is joining me in my Etsy shop with some of his calligraphy work.

We also went to the bookstore and I got my latest copy of Art Journaling and I’m very excited to read that it is now going to be a quarterly publication. Yay.

Finally we did go to the Type Truck event and I even got a chance to make my own poster. Very cool and of course it reminds me that one day I want to take a letterpress class.

In bookish news I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and let me tell you, I haven’t been as obsessed by a book in a while. I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up very late reading it and finished it all in about a day. Such a great story which I’ll tell you a bit more about in another post.

So I hope your weekend was everything you hoped it would be and here’s to a great week ahead.

5 for the Weekend

Friday is the start of my weekend; yes, a three day weekend. Yay. As you can imagine I’m really looking forward to it. Here is a little list of things for the weekend:

  • Bookshelves. I’m making some changes in my studio and these will help. Pictures to come.
  • New edition of Art Journaling Magazine. I don’t need an excuse to go to the bookstore but this time I already know what I’m getting.
  • Colorful ribbons. I got these gorgeous ribbons and can’t wait to use them for a crafty project.
  • First library visit of the year. I have to return some books and will take a look at the new books shelves.
  • Type Truck. Going to check out a moveable print shop.

Short post but I have to see if I can finish the library book that is due back on Saturday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and more bookish news soon.
