Last week I told you that I had started Partitions by Amit Majmudar but unfortunately as much as I wanted to be totally swept into the story I found I couldn’t get into it. It had almost a dreamy quality that I think would have worked really well for another type of story. To top it off the book was due back at the library so I couldn’t finish it on time.
I can’t believe it, barely into the year and already a DNF. Oh well.
But, like I said yesterday I read a great story by Jojo Moyes which I’ll tell you more about soon and I’ve started another interesting book, The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. I remember when there was quite a bit of buzz going on the blogosphere about this book but as it’s been a while I had forgotten what the book is about and so I went into it without knowing much. So far, I’m really enjoying it and I can’t wait to find out what the big secret is.
I’m hoping to finish this book soon though because I’ve got to get started on Hell Gate by Linda Fairstein for my mystery book group. I’m leading the discussion so I better get with it. I don’t know why but the past few months I’ve stopped reading several books at the same time. I sort of miss having several books to juggle but in a way it’s kind of nice to just devote myself to one book. We’ll see when I change my mind about that.
Oh and a bit later on in the month I know I’ll be picking up The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet by Reif Larson because the Slaves of Golconda have chosen this one for the first read of the year. Yes, I’m putting this on my calendar and hoping to join the discussion.
So that’s a bit of what is on the radar for me. What books are you hoping to read this month?
Oh, I loved “The Adoration of Jenna Fox”! I look forward to your review, Iliana!
I’m currently reading “The Lost Wife” and it’s starting to make me feel weepy. I hope there’ll be a good ending to it.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox has been on my shelf forever! I must get around to reading it soon.
Oh, dear, a DNF this early in the year is not the best way to start things out…
I have so many books I need/want to read. The Bookrageous Podcast folks will be discussing Swamplandia in February, I believe, and I now have that one even higher on my list.
Glad you will be joining in the discussion for T.S. Spivet! I started it earlier this week and am enjoying it. It’s slow reading though because of all the maps and digressions so don’t wait until the last minute to start reading!
I’m determined to read a Henry Green, so I can join in Henry Green Reading Week!
Just spotted your comment on Eva’s post, where you mention having bookmarks which match your books – I totally do that too! They have to be the same colour scheme, or images from the period of the book, etc… oh, I feel a blog post coming on…
Melody – I’m just finding out what is going on with Jenna and it is creepy! So good. I hope your book continues to be as good as well.
vivienne – I bought it when Borders went out of business so it hasn’t been on my shelf that long compared to some of my other books. I think I have shelf sitters for more than 10 years now!
Kailana – I know right? I’m going to stay positive and hope that’s not a reflection of books to come 🙂
Andi – Bookrageous podcast? What am I missing. Sounds like something I must check out. I feel so out of the loop!
Stefanie – Oh slow reading? I better start this weekend. I have been reading in such slow mode for months now. Must snap out of that 🙂
Simon T – Good luck with fitting in your book. And, oh please do write a post on your bookmark quirks! Would love to read about that. I am thinking about doing that soon too as I’ve added some neat bookmarks to my stash.
Glad to hear you are enjoying The Adoration of Jenna Fox. It’s a good one with a nice twist!
