This & That

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI had a great weekend as I got to spend the day with my best friend who was visiting. We had some coffee while we chatted about life updates, spent a bit of time at BookPeople and Anthropolgie and enjoyed dinner with her and her husband at delicious Mexican Food restaurant.

Unfortunately Sunday I had plans to do a bit of organizing and working in the studio but we started working on our taxes and well, there goes the day.

Anyway, in book news I did pick up the new Anne Cleeland book, Murder in Retribution. I read the first in the series last summer and it was one of those books that I wasn’t sure if I really liked but at the same time I raced through it and was curious about the next book. So I’ll let you know how this one turns out.

Also, at BookPeople I finally saw that they had the latest BookPage. I love picking up an actual copy versus reading it online.

Another to do this weekend was to return quite a few books to the library without even reading them. Don’t you hate it when that happens? I still have some library books out (and a bunch of ARCs that have come in the last few days) so I think it’s time to go on a library ban.

My stacks are overflowing and I will really try to limit myself to no new check-outs for the next couple of months. Let’s see how long I last. Hope your week is off to a great start!

Mailbox Surprise

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWho doesn’t love a good mail day right? I love ARCs, letters from friends, B&N and Amazon packages, and magazines but yesterday I was a bit surprised to receive the latest issue of Vogue magazine.

Vogue? At first I thought it was for a neighbor but no, it is addressed to me. I just wonder why I got it. I enjoy some fashion magazines (Allure & Marie Claire) but I don’t read them regularly and I definitely don’t subscribe to them.

You know why I don’t? Those dreaded perfume strips! Ugh. Due to my allergies I really don’t want strong scents in my home and half of the time those perfume strips are definitely strong. I did a quick flip of this issue and of course I saw three of those strips right away.

Anyway, I have no idea how I got this magazine. You know what I would have preferred instead of Vogue? A crafty magazine! Oh, I would have liked that. So what fun surprises have arrived in your mailbox lately?

Picture It

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI stopped by the library this past weekend to pick up five holds. Oh why did they all come in at once? Unfortunately I also had to return some library books without even starting them and I had to return back my audiobook. Darn, my first DNF of the year and it wasn’t because I wasn’t liking it but because our weather hasn’t been that great to enjoy my outdoor walks which is when I listen to audiobooks. Oh well, I’ll have to try to check it out another time.

Anyway, let’s talk about the holds. Aside from Ghost Medicine by Aime Thurlo and The Gone Dead Train by Lisa Turner which are for my mystery book group, my other holds are graphic novels. Last year I only read one and I must be making up for it this year.

First up is The Chill by Jason Starr. This is billed as a mystery novel so I’ve never read a mystery graphic novel and thought I needed to try one out. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Then I also picked up An Age of License by Lucy Knisley. I’ve greatly enjoyed her other two books French Milk and Relish so I was excited to see the library had this one.

And, finally the book I’m most excited about is Syllabus: Notes from an Accidental Professor by Lynda Barry. I haven’t taken a peek in this yet because I want to savor it over the weekend when I have more time but just the book itself looks wonderful. It looks like a composition book which is perfect as this book came about from her preparation for a class she taught on creativity. Oh how I would love to take that class. I’ve read several of her books and have enjoyed them so much for their creativity, freedom, and passion. I can’t wait to read this one.

How about you? What have you checked out from the library?
