I stopped by the library this past weekend to pick up five holds. Oh why did they all come in at once? Unfortunately I also had to return some library books without even starting them and I had to return back my audiobook. Darn, my first DNF of the year and it wasn’t because I wasn’t liking it but because our weather hasn’t been that great to enjoy my outdoor walks which is when I listen to audiobooks. Oh well, I’ll have to try to check it out another time.
Anyway, let’s talk about the holds. Aside from Ghost Medicine by Aime Thurlo and The Gone Dead Train by Lisa Turner which are for my mystery book group, my other holds are graphic novels. Last year I only read one and I must be making up for it this year.
First up is The Chill by Jason Starr. This is billed as a mystery novel so I’ve never read a mystery graphic novel and thought I needed to try one out. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Then I also picked up An Age of License by Lucy Knisley. I’ve greatly enjoyed her other two books French Milk and Relish so I was excited to see the library had this one.
And, finally the book I’m most excited about is Syllabus: Notes from an Accidental Professor by Lynda Barry. I haven’t taken a peek in this yet because I want to savor it over the weekend when I have more time but just the book itself looks wonderful. It looks like a composition book which is perfect as this book came about from her preparation for a class she taught on creativity. Oh how I would love to take that class. I’ve read several of her books and have enjoyed them so much for their creativity, freedom, and passion. I can’t wait to read this one.
How about you? What have you checked out from the library?
Syllabus sounds so good! I haven’t heard about it before so I’m going to look at it. I have Relish and French Milk waiting for me at the library so I’m looking forward to read Lucy Knisley’s works!
I’m with Athira about Syllabus–the cover is awesome. I still haven’t gotten in to the graphic novels, but I enjoy books that mention them. Should really see what graphic novels are available at the library.
I’ve heard great things about that new Knisley, I hope you enjoy it! I miss the library 🙁 Since I started blogging I haven’t had a chance/reason to get there very often. I used to be a very regular patron. I really should stop by, if only to say hello to my favorite librarians 😀
Oh I LOVE Linda Barry! And Lucy Knisley. I get so much enjoyment from graphic novels. I just bought one called “From Hell” about Jack the Ripper. I think it was actually made into a movie, but I didn’t see it. That is on my TBR SOON!
I haven’t read Lynda Barry yet, but I SOOOO want to. This one sounds like a great place to start given my own interests. Also, I hope your library picks up Displacement by Lucy Knisley. I liked it even better than An Age of License.
They all sound good but Syllabus especially. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it!
You are really getting into graphic novels!
My holds always seem to come in at once (it never fails). I went to the library twice this week when I shouldn’t have and now have a towering stack of library books. I have no idea why as I already have plenty of books I could/should be reading but it was a stressful week and new library books always make me feel better 🙂 I want to read The Chill just based off the fact that it is a mystery and graphic novel. How great is that? Enjoy all of these!!
