Library Haul

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI hope you all had a great weekend. For me it was a weekend of catching up on household chores, going out to dinner with a friend and resting. I still am not finished with my book for my book group night on Tuesday but hopefully I’ll finish it by then.

In the meantime I do have a little stack of library books I wanted to share with you. I checked out the following:

Nan-Core by Mahokaru Numata. This is a suspense story about a young man trying to uncover who his parents really were. I think this would be a great book to read for the Japanese Literature reading challenge.

Come Hell or Highball by Maia Chance. A stylish Prohibition-era caper. This is the first in Lola Woodby series.

In the Language of Miracles by Rajia Hassib. A debut novel about an Egyptian American family and the wrenching tragedy that tears their lives apart.

Heathentown by Corinna Sara Bechko. I can’t remember where I first read about this graphic novel but it looks scary.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and which one you recommend.

Sorry if I’ve been a bit missing in action from blogland but I’ve just been a bit busy at work and with family stuff. Frankly, I can’t wait until the week off I have coming up during the holidays to relax and recharge.

Book Haul

This weekend involved two trips to the bookstore and a trip to the library. Now this was a good weekend. So between stops at Barnes & Noble and Half Price Books I found the following books:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. This one seems to have been on everyone’s must read list. I am excited about it.

I also found The Daughter by Jane Shemilt which I know some of you have read and if I remember correctly it was recommended.

The Expats by Chris Pavone was another of those books that I felt like I saw on a lot of lists. I love a good thriller so I hope this one won’t disappoint.

The House of Vestals by Steven Saylor is for my mystery book group read in a couple of months. This should be interesting as I believe it’s several stories so not our typical read.

Finally, Decked With Folly by Kate Kingsbury. I don’t read a lot of cozies but this is for my December mystery book group meeting and we tried to find something with a holiday theme. I’ve already started this one.

Have you read any of these? What did you think? And, what about you, did you get a new book(s) this weekend?

Gifts for Readers & Writers

I know we’ve all been seeing gift collections for weeks now but I can’t let the season go by without giving a shout-out to the small indie business owners. So once again I’ve come up with a collection of fun and cute stuff you can get on Etsy.

gifts

Art prints, book totes, mugs, t-shirts, candles, bookmarks and so much cute stuff. Don’t you just want one of these?

I also want to give a mention to Dana who has a lovely shop, NESoaps which you can find here. I know other book bloggers used to have shops on Etsy and either they’ve changed names or are not active right now.

If I missed your shop let me know and I’ll add it to this post.

I have not been doing any shows this season but my shop is still open in case you are still shopping around. Feel free to use coupon code “Merry15” for 25% off on orders of $10 and more from now to December 31.

Now, what are some of your gift recommendations for readers?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back soon to tell you about some current reads and some book hauls.
