Scenes From The Netherlands

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe spent nine fun days in The Netherlands on our vacation. For the most part good weather, and we rented an apartment in Utrecht. We were near the city center so every day we walked along the canals whether we were wandering around or even when we went to the train station to go somewhere else.

We made day trips to Gouda, Rotterdam and The Hague. We could have squeezed in another city but it was nice to have some downtime and not be in a rush all the time. We had been to Amsterdam years ago so it was nice to return and see more of Holland.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn Utrecht not only did we see beautiful Dutch houses and lots of cyclists we even saw a UFO. I believe the UFO was part of an art installation from some years ago. While we wished we could have biked, actually our trip to the Netherlands was supposed to be a bike tour but train tickets for our bikes were sold out from Germany to Utrecht, I still felt like every time we walked towards the city center there was something new to look at. We could have rented bikes while we were there but we decided we could do that another time. Yes, I’m sure we’ll go back to

Some of the highlights for me of Utrecht was finding MegaCarta. This great shop sold vintage postcards. I had to buy a couple. Sipping cappuccino at CoffeeCompany. Walking around the Dom tower and just looking at the beautiful buildings.

iliflowA short train ride away and we were in Gouda for a day. This charming city is of course known for its famous cheese, which we did sample, but I fell in love with the Chocolade Fabriek. A chocolate factory you say? Actually this now defunct chocolate factory is home to the city library. We went in to take a break from all the walking around and guess what I found on the shelves? Flow Magazine. So here I sit with the original Flow (in Dutch) mainly looking at the pictures but really enjoying my surroundings. They have a café in this wonderful library and they also had a large selection of English language books.

I’m Back

Hello Friends – I’m back from vacation! We had such a great time in Germany and we also enjoyed spending some time in The Netherlands. I thought of blogging a few times while I was away but given that we had some technical issues to begin with I decided that was a sign to just take a break and enjoy vacation.

I have lots of stories to share about beautiful cities we were in and of course bookstores visited and all that good stuff. I read tons when we were on trains or just having down days. I read 14 books while on vacation. Love it. I also did a bit of book buying of course.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANow reality is setting in and I have tons of emails to catch up on, packages to get through, reviews to post and don’t even get me started on my work. I had more than 500 emails waiting for me today.

I’ll try to do my best on answering emails and comments and of course catching up with you guys but it may take me a while. Hope I won’t bore you too much with my vacation posts but I promise to come back with more pictures. In the meantime here’s one of me in Gouda, a lovely historic city in South Holland known for it’s stroopwaffles (they were so delicious) and cheese, of course!

Let me know what you’ve been up to and what have I missed. Now I think I may go to bed a bit early today as I’m still dealing with a bit of jet lag.

Vacation Countdown

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHello! Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with blogging these last few days but I’ve been a bit overwhelmed getting ready for vacation. Work has been busy and I’ve also been getting stuff for my family who’s staying home with my mom. I’m more than ready to get vacation started.

Right now I just have my backpack to sort out but believe it or not, I am just relying on my Kindle for my books. Maybe I’ll buy a magazine at the airport.

I’m not sure if I’ll be blogging while away. I may try to pop in and post some pictures of our travels. And, I apologize in advance for not staying up to date with my blog feed. I know I’ll have a great time catching up with you when I return. Until then, happy reading and more book talk soon!
