I just got home from my Murder on Mondays book group where we had a great discussion on Run the Risk by Scott Frost. I enjoyed it and thought it was a nice break from some of the more cozy reads we’ve read recently. Some people didn’t like it and found it confusing as to the timeline of events. Either way we all agreed it was definitely non-stop action. I do recommend it and if you want to know more about it you can read more of my thoughts on it here (spoiler free of course).
For February we’ll be reading The Shaman’s Bones by James Doss and the March book will be Immoral by Brian Freeman. Hopefully these will be great reads and will offer lots to discuss in our group.
So remember I mentioned last week about having a non-fiction reading challenge? Well, there is one being organized already. You can visit Joy’s blog for more on that. Looks like it will be fun.
Last but not least don’t forgot to stop by at The Written Word for the book discussion on The Memory Keeper’s Daughter.
As usual you site is gorgeous!
I love the title – ‘Murder Mondays’ – great. Does it always have to be mystery? Or just an obscure death that has to occur?
Let me know when you read more of that Japanese fiction (I saw your comment on tanabata’s blog).I love talking about it… Suzi has just emailed me some Korean literature which I have been dieing to get my hands on! Lucky me!
Hey, thanks for the shout-out! We have had a lot of new people join our group lately and so far almost thirty people voting for our next club pick! It is so exciting to be part of such an interesting group. As always, it is wonderful that you can join us.
P.S. I can’t wait to get my prize!! Thanks again
That really was a great discussion at our Murder on Mondays book group. I can’t wait till I get Scott Frost’s second one in the series, “Never Fear”. Now my husband is challenging me to read Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six”, the only drawback is that it’s around 900 pages!!! Well, that may be a good summer project.
These look like great books. I wish I had more time for a book club.
Nessie – Thank you! Murder on Mondays is the name of my mystery book group. Believe or not we’ve read one or two books where a murder didn’t occur and no one liked that 🙂 And, yes, I do like quite a bit of Japanese fiction so I’ve got some of the titles Tanabata listed for my ever growing TBR list. Stephanie – I still haven’t mailed out your present but I will this week! It has been a great discussion over at Written Word. Can’t wait to see which book will be next. Shadan – It was great seeing you girl. You’ll have to let me know how good Never Fear is. Nancy – You are right, it does require more time to do book groups. I just let the housework go to hell and that helps – ha,ha.
I may once again watch along with the NF challenge–but maybe if they decide to do this later I will join in. I seem to be almost all challenged out…They are so tempting, but I never seem to complete them! Of course it is a good place to get reading ideas–all those book lists!!
Danielle – I know what you mean. I’m getting a bit challenged out myself 🙂
I hope you like “Immoral”, I really did. I’m a police officer and I usually catch procedural flubs and/or can figure out who did it before I hit the end but Brian Freeman kept me guessing and I only saw one minor flub.
Elsandra – Oh that’s great to hear. We’ve often wondered about some of the police procedurals we read about how true they would be to a real officer’s job. I’ll have to tell my group this 🙂
Oh, what a wonderful idea – Murder on Monday! I love it so much I’m going to see if I can get a group together in my little town. Do you remember how your group got together? Any helpful suggestions you can give me for starting a group?
I wanted to let you know that after hearing about your long running book group, and that of the gentleman I met, that I’m going to try meeting with one of the (many, many) local book groups this month!
Booklogged – I’ll send you an email with some ideas on how we do our book group that might work for you. Sara – Yeah – That’s great! At one point I belonged to 4 book groups but I thought that was madness. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right group but once you do it’ll be worth it. Good luck and I’ll be reading your blog to see how that goes 🙂
