This is a thrilling novel that doesn’t stop with the action and shocks. No sooner has Lt. Alex Delillo been called to investigate a murder when a bomb goes off and raises the stakes of the investigation.
A bomb squad expert is called in and with his help Lt. Delillo realizes that they aren’t dealing with any terrorists but with a serial killer. A madman who always seems to be just one step ahead of them and who’s now kidnapped Lt. Delillo’s teenage daughter, Lacy.
As Lt. Delillo and Detective Harrison from the bomb squad face bullets, false leads and more gruesome violence there is also a lot of attention to detail and the writer doesn’t lose sight of carefully showing us what kind of character Delillo is.
The reader will empathize with Delillo, a single mother trying to do her best while raising a willful yet intelligent daughter. A mother who must put aside her emotions and try to do her job to not only save her daughter but save someone else from becoming the killer’s next victim.
There is a real sense of urgency in this novel and it will be interesting to see if the next book in the series can keep up the momentum found in this one. For those who prefer more mild and cozy mysteries then this may not be the one for them but if you are looking for thrills read this book now. A great debut.
