Happy New Year everyone! Ready to read lots of great books this year? I am but first let me give you my glimpse of how I did in 2008.
Total books read in 2008: 91 (same as last year – weird)
* Books by women: 72
* Books by men: 19
* Fiction: 43
* Mystery: 29
* Classics: 1
* Memoirs: 4
* Young Adult: 5
* Sci-Fi/Fantasy: 3
* Books in translation: 7
* Books borrowed from library: 17
For the most part, no surprise with those numbers. I participated in 10 reading challenges (one I still carried over into this year) and only finished four of those challenges. I think that should tell me something but as you can see I’m still jumping in and doing several this year.
Last year I said I hoped to read more classics, short stories and poetry and of course whittle away at my TBR stacks. These weren’t set in stone and good thing because I only read one classic, but I did read a lot more short stories than I typically do and all of my challenge books were from my reading stacks so that is always a good thing.
I don’t really make reading goals because that’s a sure sign I won’t reach them but I’ll just say that I hope this year I’ll be drawn to more classics, non-fiction and other various genres.
HereΓ’β¬β’s hoping everyone has a great reading year ahead!
Hi bookgirl, Happy New Year to you! π
I didn’t complete all the challenges I joined last year too and I certainly hope to do better this year. New year, new kind of determination!
Wow, that is an impressive total! Happy New Year!
91 books is great π
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year, Iliana!! I hope 2009 is as great a year in reading as 2008!!
Happy New Year, Iliana! My husband’s been looking over my shoulder now and then as I read everyone’s wrap up posts. He’s especially intrigued by the male:female author ratio. π Other than the challenges I signed up for, I haven’t really made any reading goals this year either. I am looking forward to seeing the direction our reading goes.
Rather than having reading plans, I prefer vague goals too — they are so much easier to follow through on π I’m hoping to read more books in translation next year — I was particularly bad on that this past year.
Happy New Year, Iliana! I hope 2009 is great for you in every way.
Great numbers! I doubled what I read in 2007, and I hope to double what I read in 2008. But 91 books….you rock!
I didn’t finish all my challenges either! Well done for 2008, and here’s looking forward to another great reading year in 2009.
Happy New Year Iliana! May you have good reading and create lots of beautiful books!
That’s a lot of books you read, Iliana! π
Here’s to another great reading year to all of us! And Happy New Year to you!
I don’t set any solid goal for reading anymore because I enjoy to be spontaneous. The number of library books have plunged to 2 since the closing of my branch due to renovation. Otherwise I have maintained a consistent flow of my reading and I finished 94 this year.
Seems to me that people just join challenges for the fun of joining challenges. While it would be nice to finish them, that isn’t really the driving force, is it? I haven’t really found it to be, anyway.
Here’s to good reading in 2009! Happy New Year! (I might have said that already… I am really far behind on my blog reading…. and I can’t seem to make any progress today because I keep coming back and there are about as many as I read added to the line…)
There were 2 or 3 wrap-up posts I read that the blogger had read the same number of books as last year (give or take just a few). I thought it was interesting that your reading pace can be so consistent. I’ve only been diligent about tracking since May, so I don’t know whether I’m up or down.
Impressive! Happy New Year. Great reading for 2009.
Impressive – Happy New Year. Great reading for 2009.
I agree – very impressive. Happy New Year!!
impressive indeed
I think we have similar reading habits–I don’t feel so bad now–you also read more books by women than men! I also want to read more NF (if I say it enough maybe I will do it! LOL). Have a great 2009!
You read the same amount of books as last year? Weird! Don’t feel bad about not finishing challenges, the point is to have fun and get you to try new books.
I quit joining challenges with a few exceptions, but I love getting good ideas from those who participate!
Outstanding as always. I think it is great to have goals but not to put pressure about reaching them all – that would be sure way for me not to reach some of them. It has to be fun! π WIshing you lots of good reading adventures for 2009!
Happy New Year to you, Bookgirl. Here’s hoping we both have a fabulous reading year.
Good luck on finishing your challenges this year! I’m always impressed with how balanced your reading is; you really do read a little bit of everything! π
Looks like you had a good year. It’s always fun seeing everyone’s numbers. I really need to get mine together and post soon.
I wanted to drop by and wish you a Happy New Year. Yes, I know it’s the fifth of the month. I’m so sorry. The book challenges have taken over my life right now.
Anyway, this is going to be a great year in books! π
Wow, 91 books! You beat me, LOL. For the challenges, four out of 10 isn’t bad. I didn’t even complete the measly one I joined.
