And, the winners of my small handmade journals (thanks to Random.org) are Jenclair and Literary Feline – Congrats!
Now, I have a ton of book reviews I want to share but again I’m behind on those so for now bear with me while I give you another book list. I’ve been catching up on the latest in books via Bookmarks Magazine, Borzoi Reader and of course the new shelves at the library. These are some of the books that are now on my TBR list… If you’ve read these let me know what you thought.
- I Was Told There’d Be Cake by Slone Crossley. I don’t normally read essays but this collection sounds like a good one and ok, I admit I love that title!
- The Sister by Poppy Adams. A story of two sisters and a dark past.
- Walla Walla Suite by Anne Argula. A story about a hard-boiled, fast talking P.I. Again, not one I’d normally read but this sounds kind of fun.
- The Cairo Diary by Maxim Chattam. This is supposed to be a page-turning thriller from France. I do love a good mystery set in distant lands so I’m all for this one.
- On Account of Conspicuous Women by Dawn Shamp. A story of four young ladies living in North Carolina in 1920. That’s a pretty good title too isn’t it?
- Harpsong by Rilla Askew. A portrait of a marriage.
Have you added some new books to your wish list? Do share.
This weekend I have a bunch of stuff going on that I can’t get out of but with any luck I’ll be able to finish The Glimpses of the Moon. I was having some yucky insomnia the other night and was able to catch up in this story quite a bit. I’m loving it so far. Have a great weekend all!
Congrats to the winners! 🙂
I’m not familiar with those titles except The Sister but I’ve heard mixed reviews about this one.
Hope you have a great weekend too!
Congratulations to the winners!
And same as Melody here…I’ve only heard of The Sisters. The premise of the story sounds great, but a few bloggers were disappointed by the ending. I haven’t read it, though, so I can’t say.
As for books recently added to my wishlist…too many to name 😛
I have “I Was Told There’d Be Cake” on my list as well…I loved the title and the author’s name!
What did you ever decide to do about “Diary of a Bad Year”?
Well I’m a little bit pouting but congrats to the winners! 😉
The Cairo Diary sounds really good. I think it’ll be the latest addition to my wishlist.
Congrats all around. I have The Sisters on my TBR pile. Rilla Askew is one of our local authors. I haven’t read anything by her ***hangs head in shame*** I can’t wait to hear your review.
I’m pouting a bit too, but extremely happy for the winners!
I Was Told There Would Be Cake does sound like a great title! For some reason, it makes me think of Marie Antoinette. 🙂
Have fun this weekend. I haven’t heard of any of the books that you mention. I am still behind on my postings and I am trying to really get into War and Peace.
I really want to read I Was Told There’d Be Cake, so I’m interested in your review for that!! (Especially because I don’t like essay collections normally either, but I’m attracted by the title)
Those lucky winners! Sorry about your insomnia but I am glad you are enjoying Glimpses of the Moon!
Those books all sound great. I think I am going to have to add them to my wishlist as well. It’s already so incredibly long, what’s a few more titles? The Cairo Diary sounds particularly intriguing.
Congrats to the journal winners!
A belated happy bloggiversary to you, as well. I’m sorry about the insomnia. I couldn’t sleep a wink in my mother’s empty house, so I know the feeling. I have The Glimpses of the Moon on the shelves, somewhere. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it!
I Was Told There’d Be Cake is the newest title on my wishlist. I can’t WAIT to read it!
I’ve got a couple of friends with books coming out this summer: JD Rhoades’ BREAKING COVER got a spectacular Publisher’s Weekly review, and Victor Gischler’s GO GO GIRLS OF THE APOCALYPSE is his first sci fi novel after writing four outstanding crime novels. I can’t wait to read both.
Thank you so much, Iliana! I sent you an e-mail with my address. I have The Sister in my TBR collection too. I’ve heard mixed things about it, but mostly good stuff. I’m looking forward to reading it.
Melody – I’ve heard some mixed reviews on it as well. I guess I’ll just have to read it right? 🙂
Nymeth – So true… I must add at least one book a day to my wish list!
Kristen – I still haven’t picked up Diary of a Bad Year. It seems to be doing not so well with critics but who cares right? 🙂
tanabata – I’ll just have to speed up my journal production and have more drawings right? ha,ha…
Jennifer – We have some local authors in my area as well and I always think I should read something by them but there’s just too many books! 🙂
Heather – Ooh, that’s good. Now I’ll be thinking of her too!
Isabel – I’m totally behind on my book reviews as well. Ah well. Hope you had a great weekend!
S.Krishna – That is just the perfect title isn’t it? I’ll have to look for the book at the bookstore and give it a glance.
Stefanie – I loved Glimpses of the Moon! I can’t wait to hear what everyone thought about it 🙂
Jennyellen – Exactly… I mean, there are already hundreds on the list why not more 🙂
Nancy, aka Bookfool – Thank you! Isn’t insomnia the worst? Oh well, at least I can catch up on my books. ha,ha…
Andi – Let’s see who gets to it first! ha,ha…
Karen Olson – Ooh, I must check out these books. I’ve not heard of them before so thank you for letting me know!
Literary Feline – You bet! I did get your email and I’ll be posting your journal soon 🙂
The Sister is waiting for me at the library! I thought it looked good, too! I’ll have to check out The Cairo Diary as well. I’m always adding books to my list. I’ve just discovered that Kate Morton has a new book out (she wrote House at Riverton), though it is only available in the UK right now…
Nuts. I’m sorry I missed that drawing. I have The Sister on my nightstand right now from the library – may start it tonight!
