Happy November to you! I’m sitting here typing at 7:00 and it’s so dark outside. I really like Fall but do not like it when Daylight Savings Time ends. I just feel like my whole day is already gone. Anyway, let’s talk about books read, challenges and what’s ahead.
October was a good reading month although I have kind of felt like I’ve been reading the same books. I finished four books: Midwinter Blood, Not Always A Saint, Tricks and No One Gets Out Alive. Hopefully some reviews on those to come.
Of those, one was a book in translation and two were for challenges. I’m in the middle of a couple of other books now but I’ll get to those in another post.
In November I’m really looking forward to participating in the German Literature reading challenge and Nonfiction November! I went to the library yesterday to pick up several holds I had and some of them are perfect for this reading adventure. I will do a post just on Nonfiction November soon to tell you about those books.
Of course I also checked out some other books that just sounded good to me and here are those: Half of the World In Light by Juan Felipe Herrera, Medicus by Ruth Downie and The Caretaker by A.X. Ahmad.
I’ve already started The Caretaker and I’m intrigued.
I’m looking forward to hopefully a lot of good and different types of reads in this month. Overall I’m happy with where my reading has taken me so far this year but I was hoping to have read more books and it looks like I’m around 44 books read this year so far. It’s not about the number right? How about you, how do you see the rest of your reading year?
I totally agree on the dark early thing. Not sure why we can’t just stay on Daylight Savings Time. My husband always gets gloomy at this time of year. He leaves for work in the dark and it’s dark by the time he gets home or almost. Makes his fun activity of stopping to hit a few golf balls on the way home tricky and then not possible.
I’m feeling good about my number of books read this year. It’s not as much as last year, but good enough. I thought about doing the nonfiction event, but I’m going to reread the Potter books and then reread Emma in December. Probably enough planning for me. The planning rebel. LOL
I’ve read a lot this year. More than usual, but I haven’t counted up the books. Mostly my reading is pure escapism; reading is my entertainment. Lately, I’ve read a bit more nonfiction, and I didn’t even realize there was a nonfiction designated month! Just a few minutes ago, I finished Lights Out by Ted Koppel and it has been one of those books that had a huge impact. I have one other nonfiction in progress, and a biography of Dylan Thomas in the que. Never will I forsake my mysteries, however!
I hate the time change. I wish it would be abolished. It’ll be interesting to see how my daughter reacts to it tonight when I pick her up from school and it’s pitch black out. I remember last year she got upset because she thought I was picking her up a lot later than usual. It took a couple weeks for her to adjust. On the plus side, it being darker earlier means I have an easier chance of getting her in the bath sooner–she thinks it’s later than it is. When the sun is out longer, I have a heck of a time convincing her she needs to take a bath if it’s still light out.
I still have two months to fit in at least one nonfiction book before the year ends. I still haven’t read one and that was my only goal this year. I’m so bad. Good luck with your challenges this month!
The time change has me all goofed up too! I’ve been so busy I haven’t kept a tally of the books I have read past July. Good thing I have blog posts to remind me about them!
I so don’t like the time change. I like the extra hour in that one day but of course, five months later, I lose an hour, so that’s not great. It gets dark so soon now and my evening walks have now been happening in the dark. I wish this practice would stop.
My rest of the year is going to have very little reading – most likely something easy – Harry Potter and graphic novels.
My reading is slow! Like you, the short evenings are tough.
