Aside from finishing New Moon I did get a few other things done this weekend. I went to see the Body Worlds exhibit. That was different. I spent a good part of Saturday at my craft table playing with embossing powders and generally making a mess. heh.
Today I had to clean up that mess and the general chaos I live with and you know what I found? The Daedalus Books Winter catalog. Who knows how long I’ve had that!
Anyway, today I’ve also continued with Snow and I skimmed through The New York Review of Books. For those of you participating in the next discussion at The Written Word on The Inheritance of Loss, there is an in-depth article about the book in this issue. So check it out if you get a chance. For now it’s back to Snow.

Ahhh, I need to get out and see Body Worlds. Was it insanely crowded? They recommend buying tickets in advance, which is one reason I haven’t gone yet. I’m not a good planner.
Hey Girl, I can’t wait to see your new crafty creations! I have a customer for your journals already! I’ll see her on Wednesday so bring a completed one to our book group if you have one on hand. Can’t wait to see you at our book group tonight! The book Shaman’s Bones wasn’t anything to get excited about but I know the company/conversations with you will be great! 🙂
My daughter went to see “Body Worlds” when it was in Toronto last. I know it impacted her quite a bit, especially the diseased ones (organs). She and her friends swore never to touch a cigarette in their lives after seeing the smoker’s lung. The show is highly controversial however.
Thanks for pointing us to “The Written Word”, I might go have a peek since I’ve read “Inheritance of Loss” and liked it quite a bit.
Michael and I had talked about going to that exhibit and after seeing the some of the images online I decided that it wasn’t for me. You will have to let me know what you thought about it overall…
I will have to check out the NY Review of Books.
I did get through some of Snow but won’t finish it before tomorrow. It will be fun to hear what the group thinks and I am looking forward to the next book which I will hope to make a better effort on!
And what is this about selling your journals! Do tell — sounds very exciting!
Andi – It wasn’t too crowded. I went Friday morning though so that might have helped.
Shadan – Can’t wait to see you!
Lotus – I heard an interview with Dr. Hagens (who started Body Worlds) and he said several people have told him they won’t light up after seeing the diseased lung. Quite an impact huh? 🙂 The show is pretty controversial here too. And, hope to see you over at the Written Word!
Christine – I’m still not sure what I think of the exhibit. It was just so odd. I didn’t do the audio guide and I think I should have as I felt like so much stuff was not explained.
The Body wolrd exhibit was so populr when it was here it was held over for an extra month or tow. I think I may have been one of the few people not to see it. Too squeamish 🙂
I subscribed to the e-NYRB, in hopes of getting to see that Inheritance of Loss article. (If it doesn’t start in time, I’ll just pick up the print issue.) Thanks for the tip-off. LOVE NYRB.
I don’t have a weak constitution by any means but I am not sure that I could stomach that body works exhibit.
Stefanie – I kept telling my husband, “I hope I don’t puke”! I’m surprised he still took me along with him. ha,ha.
LK – I hope you get it, if not it’s a good reason enough to go to the bookstore and check it out 🙂
Carl V. – It’s definitely not for the squeamish although I have to say that after a while you start to think things aren’t real. Maybe that was just my coping mechanism!
I enjoyed Body Worlds. When I went the exhibit was ridiculously crowded and people kept pushing and rushing you. That was the most annoying thing of all.
I went to Body Worlds when it was in Toronto last year and loved it. What I didn’t love were the adults were touching the exhibits. It took every ounce of my self restraint not to walk over, slap their hands away and give them a serious lecture.
Patricia – I keep hearing about the crowds but I guess we lucked out. It wasn’t too bad. Thank goodness cause I hate crowds at museums.
Sassy – People wanted to touch this?! Yikes.
Embossing powders? Wow! I’d like to make a mess with that stuff too!!
Heather T. – I swear half of the stuff ends up floating around and not where it’s supposed to. ha,ha..
