Had a really nice weekend catching up on some reading and crafting. Friday we went to Barnes & Noble for our regular date night and believe it or not, I did not buy any of the BN Classics. I was very tempted but I thought I should make a bit of a dent in my stacks.ĆĀ To that end, I’m signing up for the Back to Classics Challenge that Karen is hosting.
The goal is to read six classics throughout the year and to meet the requirements. A 20th Century classic, a 19th Century classic, one written by a woman, a classic in translation, one about war and one by an author new to you.
This will definitely be a challenge for me as I typically only manage to read one classic a year but I really want to read more. I haven’t made a list of books but I have many authors to choose from: Edith Wharton, Victor Hugo, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gustave Flaubert, the list goes on. Should be fun!
What else? I did a bit of reading like I said and I finished two books. Hopefully reviews to come but I’m excited to report that one is a challenge read. Off to a good start. Speaking of challenges, for those of you in the Postal Reading Challenge, the Winter issue of Stampers’ Sampler has several pages on mail art. Some very pretty envelopes to check out!
Finally, I thought I’d show you aĆĀ peek at my studio table. Lots of paper, beads and embroidery floss. First step is sewing the books and later comes covering the book boards. These are for my beaded journals and I also have other books (sketchbooks and postcard books) in various stages of completion. It was nice to listen to some tunes and work in the studio.
Now, it’s time to do a bit more reading before the work week starts again. What did you do this weekend?
Found out two of our Barnes and Nobles recently closed–wish we had stopped by to say goodbye!
I read a book for a challenge all ready this year, too. Very proud of myself. š Your workspace looks like a great place to create. š
Oh now that is scary to hear that B&Ns are closing. They are the only thing left in my town. I really need to participate in a classics challenge some day. I always love them when I read them, but I get distracted by the newer titles. Bad Sandy. On Saturday we went to the local farmer’s market, I took a long walk, and we went out to dinner. On Sunday my hubby and went to church and played 18 holes. Today the kids are back to school! Yay!
Your studio table looks amazing! And such restraint at Barnes and Noble. Good luck with the classics reading. I am sure you can do it!
I’m in awe of your studio table! The classics challenge sounds so tempting. Challenges always do this time of year. Then I get to the end of the year and wonder what was I thinking. LOL
That’s too bad about all the B&N stores that have been closing. I hope mine stays open. š I hate visiting the shopping center Borders used to be in. I still miss going to Borders.
How cool to see your work space–you have lots of nice crafty things going on. I actually managed to do a little stitching this weekend–not much but it seems like ages since I have picked up needle and thread–I miss it! So glad you are joining the classics challenge–it will be fun and maybe easier than you think since it will be over the course of the year!
Tiffany – Oh that’s terrible! I really hope things turn around for B&N because I cannot imagine no chain bookstores anymore!
Kailana – Yay! You’re off to a great start! My space is really nice but it can quickly become a huge mess. haha.
Sandy – I know can you imagine living in a town without a bookstore? I’d have to move! I would go to my indie bookstore more often but it’s a bit further away. Sounds like you had a great weekend and now the kids are in school – yay š
Stefanie – I have got to post pictures of my studio. I actually have to big work tables but like I mentioned, they can easily get crowded with mess! I’m very excited about the classics!
Literary Feline – I know, I want to join all challenges too š I pass by our old Borders all the time too and still miss it. Thank goodness we still have B&N!
Danielle – It had been a while since I’d done some bookbinding so it was nice to spend some time with that this weekend. Are you working on a new stitching project? You’ll have to post pics as I always love seeing your projects!
Thanks for signing up for the Back to the Classics Challenge! I look forward to reading your posts. I hope you find some classics you love.
The Back To Classics challenge sounds like fun. I like those categories!
