I hope you’ve all been having a great weekend. If you have a three day weekend, lucky you! I wish I did but oh well, it’s back to work.
Anyway, I did have a very nice weekend although believe it or not I actually told my husband I couldn’t make it to the bookstore for our regular date night. What is wrong with me? Well, I was afraid to go to the bookstore and be distracted by all the shiny new books and I am a bit behind on my book for my reading group which I’m leading this month. So instead we went to a local coffee shop and had a great afternoon. Best thing is that I’m not so behind on my book now.
In other book news have you seen Serena’s 2016 Poetry Challenge? There are several levels of participation and I’m going to strive to meet the Sonnet level which means reading three poetry collections. I think I can do it.
I do have a small poetry collection among my shelves which includes books from Pablo Neruda, Emily Dickinson, Billy Collins, several collections and also several collections in Spanish. Or, I could also take a look at this list of the best poetry books of 2015 and see what sounds good to me. I can already tell you that Mary Oliver’s book is going on my list.
I’ll probably see if my library has any of these books. Speaking of the library, I had more books to pick up this weekend. Oh my, I think I better get back to reading now. Hope you have a wonderful start of the week!
How did you not go to the bookstore?!? Oh well, coffee shop is a good option too and yay, you are not too behind on the book now. I am not much of a poetry person so I will wait to check your reviews for anything that catches my fancy.
I admire your willpower at not going to the bookstore. The poetry challenge does sound like it will be fun. I am curious about Mary Oliver’s collection too.
I couldn’t resist going to bookstores, so I really admire your self-control, Iliana. 🙂 And have fun with the poetry challenge!
Athira – I know right? I really wanted to but I knew I would have no will power at the bookstore and would not have read my book 🙂
Literary Feline – I think it’ll be great too. I love to read poetry but definitely don’t pick it up as often as I should. I hope this will encourage me!
Melody – Well, I did have tell my husband no bookstore but at least a cafe where I could get a treat! 🙂
No 3-day weekend for you? Totally unfair! Still, it sounds like you had a nice regular-sized weekend 🙂
Ah, back to work 🙁 My semester starts soon, and … it promises to be busy. Oh, well. Good for you for choosing the coffee shop instead of the bookstore. I’m sure I wouldn’t have been as wise 🙂
I really need to read Some poetry this year. I always say that but it never seems to happen! I’m sorry you didn’t get a long weekend, but maybe you can plan something special in the spring. No more days off for me until May! That sounds so far away! Good for you for reading books you own rather than being tempted by new ones! 🙂
It is hard to concentrate on the book at hand at times. So many distractions–even new books can be distractions! 🙂
