I didn’t mean to miss out on a few days of blogging there but I’ve been pretty tired from work lately. I feel like all I do is complain about lack of time and I hate it when I get into that frame of mind. To top it off I haven’t been doing my yoga regularly at all as I’m still working through my shoulder tendonitis. So needless to say, I needed to spend a few days away from the computer and just putting things into perspective.
I rested, I enjoyed dinner with friends, and time spent with my mom and above all, I tried my hardest to just put away the office. I think I did quite well as I am sitting here tonight a bit tired but the good tired. From having gone to the gym, going out to the movies, just packing in a lot of good moments.
We also stopped by Borders to see what the latest price reductions were. I almost don’t even want to go in there as it’s sad. Seeing all those messy shelves, empty spots and the darkened cafe. I still couldn’t find out when they will finally close the doors but I’m assuming it will be in the next couple of weeks.
I decided to treat myself to some book therapy and got the following books:
- The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. I know a lot of you have loved this book.
- The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard. The next selection for the Slaves of Golconda.
- A Test of Wills by Charles Todd. A historical mystery that’s also been recommended to me by some bloggy friends.
- Troubles by J.G. Farrell. Hadn’t heard of this one but it’s a NYRB book and I’ve had really good luck with some of these classics.
- Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. I figure a good cozy read is just the kind of book I need.
Anyway so that’s what’s been going on with me. I hope you’ve all been doing great and looking forward to catching up with your blogs soon.
Hope your shoulder is getting better, Iliana!
I enjoyed reading The Adoration of Jenna Fox so I look forward to your reviews.
Hope you have a great weekend ahead!
PS: How’s the weather there?
I feel your pain – literally. I have rotator cuff tendinitis and it’s miserable.
I’m in physical therapy now. It’s the second time I’ve had it, but it does get better, so hang in there. Have a great week.
I hate the way work gets in the way of fun stuff, but then guess we should be glad we have jobs:)
I love your new books. The Adoration Of Jenna Fox, just entered my house. I can’t wait to read it.
Book therapy is always nice! Enjoy! (I returned a book, so with the money put back on my account I am planning to buy Among Others!)
I have tendinitis in my wrist that flares up from time to time so I feel your pain. Hope your shoulder is better soon. IN the mean time you have lots of new books to make you forget about a sore shoulder 🙂
Sometimes we all just need a break and I’m glad you are taking one. You’ve got some good reads to look forward to!
I’ve been feeling exactly the same–too much I want to do, not enough time to do it and tired from work to even contemplate it all! Glad to hear you had a little time to reenergize, though. I have the Farrell book as well and I need to start the Slaves–I’ve been dragging it around with me, but just haven’t quite gotten into it yet.
I hope your shoulder feels better. It must be sad to see Borders that way. The one by me luckily is not closing yet, I was just there this weekend. Enjoy your books.
I’ve been missing a few days here and there on the blog. I’ve been tired, too, so I hear you on that. Hope your shoulder feels better soon. I really enjoyed The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Hope you do, too. 😉
I just finished Major Pettigrew and thought it was great. I hope you enjoy it! I’m looking forward to starting the Hazzard in the next week or so.
Melody – Our weather is starting to get warm. I like that but then I have to think that I don’t want 100+ temps here that soon either! haha.. My shoulder is getting better but it just takes time. Need to learn to be patient 🙂
Kristy – Oh thank you for the words of encouragement! I feel like I’ve been dealing with this for so long and I get whiney! I just want to be able to get back to yoga as I was practicing. I know I’ll get there but I’m getting impatient!
Diane – Indeed right? I am usually good about leaving work at work but I guess maybe I need a vacation!
vivienne – That’s so funny that we were on the same bookish wavelength! hope you enjoy your loot – you got a lot of good stuff recently too!
Kailana – Yes, book therapy does help doesn’t it? So glad you’re getting the Walton book. I’m looking forward to reading that!
Stefanie – Oh that is no fun. Do you have exercises that you do for your wrist? I have a series of exercises I have to do every day. Most days I’m good about getting them in but sometimes I slack off. Just gotta keep working on that.
Kathleen – So true! I think so many people don’t know how to relax and unwind and then they end up with a bunch of health problems. Gotta learn to take care of ourselves!
Danielle – The older I get I guess i feel like time is really going at the speed of light. It doesn’t help that I really resent my commute. I need to learn to let go of what I can’t change right now.
bookworm – It is. I really do like B&N too so I’m glad at least we have that but still you know. It’s just not fun to see a bookstore close.
Anna – It must be the change of the season right? I’m sure I’m going to love the Jenna Fox book. So many recommendations on that one!
Dorothy W. – Oh yay, I’m so glad to hear you liked it. I am hoping it’ll be a good comfort read. I’ll probably be starting the Hazzard book next week as well.
I loved Major Pettigrew, and The Transit of Venus. Sorry about the tendonitis, I have it in my ankle, and I can’t run–hate that!
Sorry to hear about your shoulder! I hope you feel better soon.
I’m planning to read Major Pettigrew at some point this year. It sounds like such a lovely read.
Sorry you are going to lose your Borders – we are still holding on to ours, but who knows how long that will last.
Sounds like you found a lot of great books! I’ve been wanting to read The Adoration of Jenna Fox for some time now but never seem to remember to pick it up from the library. Hope you enjoy all of these!!!
Three cheers for book therapy! And I see you’ve been back to Borders again, since this post. I went to our (somewhat local) Borders to say goodbye about a month ago, just after the bankruptcy was announced — I can image the mixed emotions, with ransacked shelves and thinking about the loss of jobs.
