As I mentioned in my previous post it was time to start a new kindle read and I wanted to share and join First Chapter, First Paragraph Tuesday Intros. Thank you to Yvonne, from Socrates’ Book Reviews who hosts this meme. As a reminder this is your chance to post a bit from a book that you are reading or planning to read.
“It was her idea to tie up the nun.
The dormitory lights were cut every night at ten. Locked into their rooms, girls commanded to a cemetery silence before sleep, waking at dawn for morning prayers. The nuns believed silence a weapon, teaching the girls that only with it could they discover the depths of their interior without being servants to the temptations of this world.”
Infinite Country by Patricia Engle.
From the publisher: Talia is being held at a correctional facility for adolescent girls in the forested mountains of Colombia after committing an impulsive act of violence that may or may not have been warranted. She urgently needs to get out and get back home to Bogotá, where her father and a plane ticket to the United States are waiting for her. If she misses her flight, she might also miss her chance to finally be reunited with her family in the north.
That is one first sentence isn’t it? I only started this novel last night but already I’m hooked. I may still yet be in the early beginning but I am in awe of this young woman who will do anything to get to her family. And, while this may not be a thriller by any means, I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if she will be reunited with her parents and eventually be in the U.S.
What do you think? Is this a book you would pick up or would add to your TBR?
I’ve been seeing this a lot lately and it has some good buzz. I certainly want to read it as soon as the waiting list catches up with me lol
I am looking forward to reading this book–I saw an interview with the author and have an ARC at the top of one of my TBR piles. Hope you enjoy it!
I haven’t heard about this one, but that excerpt grabs my attention. I would definitely want to keep reading this one.
That cover sure catches my attention and I think the premise sounds interesting, too. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this book, Iliana.
That first paragraph would definitely make me keep reading!
I loved this book! It’s a tough read at times, but so very good. Such a great opening line, too.
Tie up the nun? Yes, definitely a shocker of a first sentence! I hope this one turns out be great!
I don’t think I’d want anything to do with tying up a nun! I’m not a fan of the cover but the story sounds very interesting! I’ll be watching for your review!
I’m eager to add this one to my stacks! It’s getting great reviews, isn’t it? What an great first sentence!!
