I just started my next book group read so I thought I’d do another First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea.
“She’d been as biddable as a heifer for the two days they had her. She came willingly when they picked her up in the van. She asked no favours, made no appeals for mercy while they waited for Wee Paul to give the final word: kill her or let her go.
At first Iain was pleased that she was passive. He’d never had to muscle a woman before. Then he began to wonder why. She didn’t seem frightened at all, she even smiled sometimes. She only spoke once, to ask a question: How much longer will it be? Slowly they began to realise that she had completely misunderstood what was going on.â€
Blood, Salt, Water by Denise Mina.
How’s that for an intro? I picked this up before bedtime last night and quickly realized this may not have been the best choice because this first scene only got more grisly as I kept reading. Oh but I’m intrigued.
Have you read any books by Denise Mina and would this make you want to pick up a copy? I’ve read one of her books before but it’s been a long time and it wasn’t part of this series so I’m looking forward to this one.
I haven’t read any of Denise Mina’s crime fiction, but this sounds intriguing. From the publisher’s blurb, it sounds like it’s set near a seaside, which I always enjoy reading about. Thanks, Iliana!
I read a couple of Mina’s books years ago. Dark suspense. I’m not sure if I’d keep reading at night, knowing that the books I read were pretty oppressive, featuring the underside of human behavior.
Sounds vaguely disturbing already. Probably not my style!
Here’s my Teaser/Intro for this week: http://justasecondblog.blogspot.com/2016/04/teaser-tuesdaysfirst-chapter-first.html
I read something else by Mina and really liked it. I’d keep reading this one.
I’ve read a couple of books by this author (not this one), and I would definitely not want to read it before sleep.
Thanks for sharing…and here’s mine: “BREAKDOWNâ€
I’ve never read a book by this author. I’d keep reading.
I haven’t yet read anything by Mina, but I hope to someday. I like the opening. I can see why you would have second thoughts about reading it before bedtime. 🙂
That’s pretty intriguing! You will have to let me know what you think of this book.
I like Mina so I would keep reading.
I like the author and the intro makes me want to read a bit more as well. enjoy
I’ve not heard of this author but you’d me totally intrigued with that intro! I’ll have to check out this book as well as her other books.
I have several books by Denise Mina but I have yet to read her (am a terrible book collector….wish I could read them as fast as I buy them….). I’ll be curious to hear what you think of her!
