I mentioned in my last post that I was going to start a new book and I did. So, I thought I’d join in on this week’s First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea.
“It is the year all the members of my family will end up fleeing Mexico, following Grandpa’s disappearance, but at that point I don’t know for sure what’s happened to him. I just need to be around my friends. I need them to take care of me, to tell me our lives will go on as expected, Italy’s calling, it will be splendid.”Â
From Barefoot Dogs by Antonio Ruiz-Camacho.
I got to hear the writer at last year’s Texas Book Festival so this is a book I was eager to read. Just had to wait for the right mood. It’s a book of interconnected short stories and I admit I don’t typically reach for short stories but so far, I’m really liking this one.
What do you think? Are you curious to find out what’s happened to the grandfather in this story? Do you enjoy short stories?
I’m not a big lover of short stores and I’m not really sure why. Not enough story maybe? The beginning of this one is appealing though. Hope you enjoy it!
I like short stories more these days, previously I’d never consider them. I’d read more. Hope you like this one Iliana.
That is great that you were able to hear the author. That really enhances the reading experience. Enjoy!
Short stories aren’t my favourite reads either but the way you talk about this author I think I might like this. Thanks for sharing. Here’s the link to my intro/teaser for today from Barbara Wood’s The Magdalene Scrolls: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1vT
Short stories are hit or miss with me. It takes a lot of skill to develop believable, well-rounded characters within the confines of a short story. Plus, a lot of them feel rushed–problems are resolved too quickly or too easily.
Based on the beginning of this one, I might read more to find out what happened to the grandfather.
It makes a good start!
I should probably read more short stories, but I tend to avoid them. I think it is nice that you get read something by an author you have heard speak, though!
